Mexican food restaurants

I found that I just can't go to them and eat low calorie. I am too tempted by the chips and salsa and enchiladas.

Too true. But, how are you going to give up Mexican food? Cannot do it. The taco and the enchilada are just one of those indulgences you have to accept, I think.1

I can. They bring out the bowl of chips. From the bowl I remove 5 chips. Only 5. Fragments are preferred. Those 5 are the taste of chips and salsa that I allow myself to have. I dip the chip into the salsa and enjoy. It's just a little, but it's not too much.
One cocina has a salmon on Caesar dish that works great in my plan. Another has an Ensalada de Camarones that works great in my plan. Any of them can give you a plate of fajitas. Ditch the tortillas if you want to limit bread and eat the meat and vegetables.6 -
Make it at home low calorie to get your fix. I went to a new place in my town where they don't give chips…just tasty small tacos and small plates. It was great because no rice and beans and giant platters of melted cheese on everything.2

I go out once a month for dinner with my husband and eat whatever I want. Then right back to my plan the next day. I feel it helps keep me on track instead of deprived6

I had Mexican food today for lunch at 11:30, I'm still full! Lol I will probably just have a salad or snack later.0

Seriously I eat Mexican most days. But I hear you about the chips. They are my downfall always. I try to find things I like slightly less. Such as pretzels with cheese. Or a baked potato with hot sauce.0

Funny enough, Mexican places were a huge problem for me, until I went keto. Knowing in advance that I won't be eating any tortillas, beans, or chips has made it far less problematic. Most of their meats are pretty lean, and everything else I eat there is just a bunch of peppers.1

Just eat a few chips. If you eat a few more then so what. It is not going to ruin your diet. Think calories by the week and not by the day.2

Chicken fajitas with corn tortillas is what I have been ordering. I top it with lots of salsa and the onions/peppers that comes with the grilled chicken. I avoid the cheese and sour cream, but will have a small serving of guacamole.
For the tempting chips and salsa bowl - I take one chip and break it in to several pieces then dip each into the salsa and eat them as slow as possible.2 -
I take seven chips out of the basket, and break them into pieces and eat them slowly. Then I order chicken fajitas, but only eat one tortilla. I eat the chicken and veggies until I hit the halfway mark, then I ask for a take-home container for the remainder. I don't take home leftover tortillas.
I refuse to discuss margaritas, other than to say that they are magical.2 -
I love Mexican food. I ate out at my favorite Mexican restaurant last night. I just fit it in by eating lighter earlier in the day. I get chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce, but I just get the enchiladas without beans and rice. I try not to eat too many chips, but we always get chips and queso. And I try not to get beer every time, but it's Mexican food so I often do get one. Some things are just worth saving up calories to eat.1

I don't have any tips for the chips and salsa, but for dinner I eat half or less, take the rest home, and get at least 2 more meals from it. Then you get Mexican 3 times instead of once!0

I order the vegetarian fajitas and have them add a protein. The vegetarian fajitas have more of a variety of vegetables in them. I just eat that part and ask them not to bring the tortilla or anything else. I then dump salsa on it and enjoy.0

I cannot do it either. Not a single thing they have is low cal. I find that making modified healthy versions at home works better.0

I don't find it to be really higher calorie than any other restaurant experience. Unless you're specifically ordering off a low calorie menu, restaurants in general are calorie bombs. This is one of the reasons why my wife and I treat eating out as an occasion and only go out 2-3 times per month. When we do, we usually arrange our day so that our other meals are smaller and we usually only eat two meals on days when we go out...i.e. we like Mexican for brunch the best which will suffice for both breakfast and lunch and then we won't really have anything until dinner and it's often smaller and lighter than we would usually have.
Living in New Mexico, good Mexican food is just a part of life...you have to make it work and i'm not skipping out on the essentials like tortillas and pinto beans.0 -
I don't find mexican worse, calorie wise, than most other restaurant food. I try to make good choices there, just like I do at other restaurants.0
