I'm an 19 year old girl with a massive beer gut...?

I don't know how it got this way but I have a beer gut now that is 37inches around and hangs over my pants.
I didn't have this a year ago, and it won't go away.
How do I get this to go away? Any ideas?
I weigh 165lbs as of today and am about 5'8. I'm not overweight, so I don't know why I have this.
There isn't anyway I could be pregnant.

According to bmi 165 at 5'8 is overweight4 -
It isn't by much.1

It is overweight by a pound. Depending on muscle mass, the look could be further exaggerated. The less muscle, the less "tight or toned" you will look even though you aren't overweight by much. If it's hanging over your pants, I'm guessing this is the case. That and you probably store your fat in your stomach.
With that being said, all you can do is eat in a calorie deficit. Set your stats up to lose .5lbs a week (to lesson the damage done to lean body mass), get a food scale, and if possible, start a progressive weight lifting program.

First, go to the doctor. I have seen young women with protuberant abdomens who have ginormous ovarian cysts or a full term baby they didn't know about. (I'm a dr.)
Secondly, are you a small frame? If so, you probably need to be at the lower end of the healthy BMI range to have the appearance you want. I'm in a similar boat. 1 lb over a healthy BMI, but need to lose 15 lbs to look much better and not have this poochy belly. I have a smallish frame.12 -
Also, check out the info and advice in this handy thread...

Being 19 years old, it may be developmental, maybe bad eating habits have caught up with you??
Any changes in activity level? Did you take a sport in high school and are less active now??
You say this is a change from a year ago, is there a major life change a year or two ago??0 -
Second the ovarian cyst suggestion. Go see a gyno or nurse practitioner.3

I had quite the gut on me when i was 165lbs, I'm also 5"8. But as mentioned, make an appointment with your doctor to rule out any medical conditions.0

My first thought was the bolded, also. I had an enormous ovarian cyst (16 lbs) that almost killed me. It might not be anything, but if it is something, you want to catch it before you are taken by ambulance barely conscious because you are in renal failure an have sepsis due to the enormous cyst you didn't know you had.2 -
Stop the beer and cut out as much bread that is comfortable. Incorporate more veggies into your diet. Exercise, Cardio with abs workout worked for me.0

you have a beer gut and dont know how it got that way - first things first - how much beer do you consume?!4
-
Once you have ruled out any medical condition like pregnancy or ovarian cyst you may have to reasses
You are overweight for your height and body
http://www.health-calc.com/body-composition/waist-to-height-ratio
We are the same height and I weigh 160 ...I'm not saying a person can't be healthy at your weight ...I am saying you, as an individual based on your frame and genetic predisposition to where you carry fat, are not within healthy

Actually according to BMI 165 at 5'8 is 25 so it's the outer limit
I know this as it was my initial target
By the time I got to 165 my waist was 27" though so it's very much down to personal circumstances as to whether that's healthy weight range or not0 -
OP I assume that nothing much has changed for you since you posted this pic?
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10378197/stomach-sticks-out-abnormally-pic/p1
How did the doctor confirm it was just weight/fat as mentioned in the earlier thread?
I wonder if a dexa scan would confirm that it is majority fat? Does anyone know?5 -

Good catch
Since April you have only posted about your pot belly and have said that doctor has ruled out any medical issues and confirmed it is weight
So what have you done ?0 -

Per your other thread picture and doctor results, you are skinny fat. Lose weight, you hold your weight poorly because you probably have little muscle. 165 may be upper end for a 5'8" woman, but it doesn't normally look like that. Lose weight and lift some weight.0 -
OP, are you sure the doctor did a full assessment of your issue? Did you see an OB/GYN, your MD, etc.. I think more than one doctor should have seen you.. ??
edited to add: if you still the weigh the same as you did in April, you are not over weight by any stretch of the imagination. (personally this BMI stuff is BS and does not take into consideration a lot of factors)... . but it did appear that you may should rule out any medication issues as pointed out earlier this year..
I am not sure what more we can add to this, except truly get some one in the medication field to take your issues seriously (ger second and third opinions) because unless you are just an exceptional rare case that has a "naturally" developed beer looking belly, there is a cause to it, but something we cannot diagnose.0 -
Some people just put their weight in certain places.
Nosy but relevant question:
How are your periods? Regular?
(DO NOT say "regular" if you'er on the pill; if you're on the pill, you don't actually know if they're regular).
Any unusual hair growth or hair thinness?
Putting weight on around your middle is one of the things that is way more common in PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). It comes with a number of other things, including insulin resistance and eventual Type 2 diabetes, and MANY women with PCOS find that they need to eat fewer carbs to lose weight and not put on a lot of belly fat. You may want to look further into that.1 -
The doctor did a full evaluation and even a ultra sound. Apparently there was nothing there. I have been trying to eat better and even have been exercising more. I have had two knee surgeries previously that limited my movement and made me a bit sedentary for a period of time. Could that have caused this spare tire?1
-
Just eating over your maintanence calories plus genetics will cause it. What's the older women in your family like physically? Unless underlying condition it's just plain over consumption.
I always had small waist until one day I was diagnosed with a common condition called denial.
Hmmm yes. Ate n drank too much for how much my body needed. Always thought cause I wet gym I'd be ok. Kept wearing looser clothing til one day I woke up. Where the F did that come from???!!! Hello gut!4 -
Looks like pregnant belly to me. I know you said you had an ultrasound but that's what it looks like.1
-
I had the same thing but mine was due to metabolic syndrome from taking an atypical antipsychotic. do you take any medications?1
-
Def see your obgyn as a safeguard. I used to have fibroids. (then I had a hysterectomy) but I had a badly enlarged uterus crammed with those tumors. So you need to make sure that it is really a matter of losing fat and strengthening your core, rather than something medical. Also some ailments make the abdomen bloat. If you are perfectly well, then you will need to lose fat and strengthen your core. Planks are super awesome for making your abs strong while you lose the fat that is on top of them by cutting calories.0
-
The doctor didn't give me any reason to why it was happening. I suggest it is genetic from my father and there due to high stress.0
-
Also, work on your posture. I f'd up my hip joint from having an extended bend in my posture with little to no ab muscles. Suck in your belly to help you straighten up and build a little muscle. The second picture in the other thread looks like you're attempting a "shelf booty" but bending your back at an awkward angle to make your butt stick out.0
-
Was just about to say, check your posture. Poor posture makes a flabby belly look worse.1
