Secondly, the strength, love, and resilience of all the posters who already posted is truly awe inspiring and you all have my deepest admiration and respect.
Now for me, today is a sad day indeed...
One of my “kids” just text me the information for his Dads funeral, by “my kid” I mean my oldest sons dear friend, they were QB & Center, inseparable throughout high school, and still work together during summer. Any mom of a football player knows that they are all your kids, that when you have sons, their friends become your sons! Breaks my heart for someone to lose a parent at 20 years old, I can’t even imagine.
While I don’t have a picture of his Dad, I do have thousands of him…and I am so proud to be his “mom” and there is no doubt in my mind that his Dad would be so proud of the man and source of strength he is being for his own mother.
On a lighter note, yes that’s me in the middle of all those boys, only Mom every to get to hold the illustrious Coal Bowl (we lost the following year, maybe it was my fault?) and no…lol…my son is not a cross-dresser, the cheerleaders made the boys on homecoming court dress like that for a pep rally.
The days of playing are long gone for them all but what great memories they made, the wonderful lifelong friendships they created will serve its true great purpose this week.
I have been so lucky to be that Mom with the camera always around and have the love of all those boys…tomorrow will be hard, I’ve wiped the tears of devastating losses and injuries throughout the years…but never the tears of a brokenhearted “son”.
Hugs C!, Those are some great pictures. He is lucky to have you to support and be there for him. I could not imagine losing a parent or a child, that truly breaks my heart. Just hug him tight as you can! Thinking of you today my dear friend. Love you
Thanks Hun! Love u! ❤️

What a wonderful way to honor loved ones. What a great way to pay tribute to your family and friends. I give you credit @Kasner1975. Kudos to you my sweet friend. And hugs and kisses to all. I lost my mom when I was younger. Still breaks my heart when I talk or think about her. ❤❤❤1 -
This thread made me shed a tear. I very nearly lost my dad last week. Worst week of my life. Can't imagine the pain people go through.
Sorry for everyone's losses x1 -

This is my grandmother, Doris. She passed away in 2000 and, as I have stated before, if I allowed myself the time during the day, I would still sob, uncontrollably, because I miss her so much.
She was born in Jacksonville, Fl in 1919 and worked hard to become the Valedictorian of her class. She then went on to ride the train across the country to attend Pepperdine College (not known as University in those days), where she met my grandpa.
I won't bore you with her life's story but wanted to share two incredible things about her that will give you just a glimpse of who she was and what she meant to me.
Story #1) She could walk on her hands, around the house, until the age of 65.
Story #2) On a visit to Jerusalem, a man attempted to slip up behind her and snatch her purse from her arm. She worked out almost every day and so she had a firm grip of her bag. The only thing he succeeded in doing was knocking her to the ground where she then proceeded to firmly grasp one of his legs. She did this so tightly that the only option he had was to wrestle his foot out of his shoe and go running off without his shoe and, obviously, not her purse.
She was an amazing woman.
P.S. the only reason she stopped walking on her hands at age 65 was because she broke a few ribs when she was dragged to the ground by the Jerusalem mugger, also at age 65.
I wish that each and every one of my friends could have met her.
Awesome Grandma Jason, I want to be like her when I am 65!!!0 -
At the end of June, we lost my lovely maternal Grandma Nolen to dementia, malnutrition and dehydration. I don't have any photos, but I can say that she was a beautiful lady, inside and out. She helped introduce me to a faith/belief system that I very proudly call my own. Although it hurts, I know that she is with her Savior and family, and immensely enjoying afterlife.1

Indeed, love does not die. My son once asked me about this. Yes, I still love his father, although he was taken from us in an accident in 1977, and I have since remarried. I also still love my first boyfriend, killed by a drunk driver.2

Not so much me because I didn't know him very well, but my son played football with this young man for the past 2 years and they became very close. What I do know is he was always smiling and polite, genuine and compassionate, a role model to other kids. A young life taken too soon in a tragic accident.. RIP Destin - You will be missed.Kasner1975 wrote: »0 -

My mind and heart goes out to all of you who have shared knowledge of your loss(es) with the rest of us.
@Kasner1975 I can only imagine the enormity of your phenomenal loss, and for you and everyone in this thread now, and to come, I hope for each of you as much healing as possible.
May our voids these priceless Souls have left in our lives be filled with peace, and may their passing to what I believe is a higher lane of life, bring us hope and joy, for it is a far better place to be. Part of each of them lives on in us. Best blessings to each of you and those who share your loss.
Since June 2010:
One of my best friends Kirk
Uncle Clarence (like a 2nd dad to me/my family) (Viet Nam War, US Army)
Oldest brother Paul (1st Gulf War 24th ID Veteran, US Army) (one of my top heroes)
My Mum Ruth (1st Civilian recognized as US Army Recruiter) (most importantly, she is mother of 7 Children, and grandmother of 13) and my 1st greatest fan, and one of my top heroes and one of my top inspirations
One of my best friends John (Cold War Veteran, USAF)
My Dad Elmer (one of hardest of hard-core US Army Special Forces, Airborne Ranger, Medic, Viet Nam War and many operations) (most importantly, he is father of 7 Children, and grandfather of 13) and my 2nd greatest fan, one of my top heroes, my best friend, and one of my top inspirations
Oldest 2nd oldest brother Brian (1st boss at McDonald's who challenged me and showed me I could usually exceed my expectations of my best, and lived as a faithful example of a husband and dad)
Very much ❤️ and miss them all for way more than words or feeling can ever express or capture, regardless, I catch glimpses of their presence in my children, nature, my thoughts, and my dreams and I feel joy. I am encouraged (but not usually in a hurry) by these instances to look forward to what is beyond this life... a reunion with them all for a start to a new beginning.
I wish you all at least all this ❤️1 -
I have lost all my grandparents, several aunts and uncles, my oldest friend, and many others. But three deaths have affected me the most. Two of my high school classmates died just a few years after we graduated. One had a seizure and the other took his own life. I remember thinking how young we were to be burying them. And I purposed to live every day to the fullest because you never know when it's your last.
I grew up with four guys that are my brothers. All of our parents were still living until today. One of my brother's dad passed this morning. I'm not sure I've been rocked this hard in a long time. He's the first of our parents to pass. *kitten*!0
