4 weeks pp not losing weight :(

I keep reading online how everyone's weight melts after having a baby. I am 23, 5'9 and eat 1600 calories per day because I am breastfeeding. I am not supposed to exercise until 6 weeks popcorn because I had a csection. What am I doing wrong?

You had a c-section so your body is still healing, it requires energy to do this and will likely be retaining all kinds of water in the process. You are breastfeeding, you also require energy to do this.
Stop dieting at this point, you're doing yourself no favours and are potentially harming yourself, 1600 is not enough for what you are currently going through.12 -

You shouldn't believe everything you read online. Take it easy at this time, don't stress, look after yourself and the baby. Be careful not to under eat too much as your breast milk may dry up.

When you are breastfeeding its doubly important to eat full fat products, otherwise your breast milk will not contain the right nutrients for baby. Fat is a really important nutrient for baby's growing brain and organs. Baby won't be able to metabolise vitamins or protein without a good supply of fats in your breast milk. (In fact you won't either)
Are you sure 1600 calories is maintenance for you while you are breastfeeding AND using energy repairing your own body? Double -and triple check this point.
It's not a good idea to limit calories atall, you need more right now.
Surely you want to put baby first and your figure second?7 -
What you're doing wrong is having unrealistic expectations.
You just had a baby. That's a major trauma on your body. Your body needs time to adjust and heal itself. So in the meantime, be kind to your body. Feed it adequate nutrition to support you and baby and then when your OBGYN gives you the ok, start LIGHT exercises. And by light I mean a short walk, because it's going to hurt. It sucks and it hurts. So be kind to yourself.12 -

I gained a lot of water after my c section and my weight didn't just drop off, I breastfed too, for some women it "melts" off for others it doesn't, it will get there5

In the most respectful way possible...calm your face! You just had a baby, your body is recovering from major trauma. Give it time.
My baby girl just turned 6 months and my body is still healing.
The whole breastfeeding melting weight isn't true for everyone. I'm way too hungry when full time nursing to even try reducing calories. Plus the exhaustion from a newborn.
With my first it took me almost 2 years to finally get back to pre baby weight.
My 2nd is eating more solids and nursing less and I'm only now able to reduce to 1700 cals a day.
When you can, just focus on walking and strength training to help you heal. The weight will come off eventually but your baby will only be small for a short time. Relax and enjoy your new squish and congratulations!8 -
Give it time. You aren't supposed to do anything until you are cleared for a reason. Your body has been through a lot and starting back too early can put a lot of pressure on it. Leading to more damage and causing complications.
Listen to your docs , be patient and be careful5 -

Not everyone's weight "melts off" with breastfeeding. For me, I had to weight until we eventually weened before my weight dropped. Your main focus right now needs to be recovering and making milk. Don't stress so much about the weight right now.6

Now is not the time to worry about your weight. Eat healthy to provide good nutrition for the both of you.8 -

I'm 4.5 months postpartum and I had a csection and I'm exclusively breastfeeding my son. I eat a MINIMUM of 2000 calories a day. I've lost 25lbs in those 4.5 months. When I eat less I notice a drop in my milk supply. I didn't start counting calories until I was 6 weeks postpartum and released to work out. I listened to my body and ate whe. I was hungry. You are establishing your milk supply, dieting could potentially be detrimental to breastfeeding if done improperly.4

Did the doctor tell you that lie too? Ha! I was very annoyed when it turned out not to be true for me. My body held on the the water for 3 months after my first csection.

It's not just "water weight". Yes, you did retain water and will lose that, but also blood volume needs to get back to normal, your uterus needs to get back to normal size, your milk supply needs to regulate, lochia needs to stop... All of this can take an average of six weeks, sometimes longer. I gained 50 lbs with my last pregnancy. Left the hospital (at the 24 hour mark) 13 lbs lighter, at two weeks I was down another 5 lbs (total of 18 lbs down), at six weeks I was down a total of 30 lbs. The rest of the gain (20 lbs) took about six months to lose, so I was back to prepregnancy weight by the time baby was 8 months old. It seems slow at the time, but that really isn't very long (it takes nine months to gain the weight, it can take nearly that long, or longer, to lose it).
I second the "calm your face" suggestion. You are four weeks out from having a baby AND a surgical procedure. Put things in perspective.

The "I lost all of my weight by simply breastfeeding" is one of those BS things celebrity mums say when asked how they lost all of their baby weight..2

***I have breastfed a total of 10 years (6 babies)*** Keep breastfeeding on demand and do not supplement or add in formula. Also, you could pump some to save up in the freezer, which will burn more calories to produce more. With my first baby, one month I only lost 5 pounds, but I lost a full 5 inches off from my waist, so be sure to take measurements! For now, the best thing to do is to buy looser clothes so you are comfortable, and don't try to squeeze into your pre-pregnancy clothes yet. By spring, you will likely be back to your pre-pregnancy weight. Best of luck to you!1

actually with my first child I did lose all the baby weight with breast feeding. the second one I lost half of it breastfeeding.I gained 40 lbs with both of them. my first child I lost most of the weight within that week(he had an extremely large placenta(was supposed to be a twin but it never formed) so that alone was more than 15lbs itself my belly looked deflated. I gained most of my weight after my kids got older. so some will lose it but some wont. But in this case milk supply and the baby needing proper nutrients is the most important thing right now(including healing for mom) not weight loss.1 -
Trust me hun, not everyone's weight melts off after baby. I gave birth vaginally nearly 2 years ago now and am still 20 lbs. heavier than my pre-baby weight and hoping to lose 40 lbs. They say it takes 9 months to put on the weight and at least 9 months to take it back off, and for some of us even longer. Be kind to yourself and focus on your sweet little babe while your body heals! Xoxo0
