Exercise calories

I was set a goal of 1250 by mfp. I have linked my account to my Fitbit and thus get an extra 1000 for walking. Question is do I use them or not. I feel like I shouldn't but if I don't then I'd feel deprived. I am 15.5 stone female and need to lose 5 stone. Tia

If you're just walking, I would say don't use it unless you're having a day that you're really hungry. Other than that, just follow MFP to ensure a nice size deficit.

Considering MFP is designed for you to eat back your exercise calories, I'd say eat back a portion, especially since your calories are so low. Start with a percentage you're comfortable with, say 50%, and monitor your loss rate over the next few weeks. If you're losing faster than your planned goal, eat back a higher percentage. If you're losing slower than planned, eat back a smaller percentage.

The fitbit adjustment is in addition to what mfp has pre-set. You may want to look at adjusting your activity level if its showing that high of a discrepancy. I get an average of 8-10k steps a day and am set to lightly active, the activity level accounts for my steps. Proper activity setting also gives you a more sustainable calorie goal.

What is your activity level at? And how many daily steps do you get.

I've set it at lightly active. I do 10k steps a day. I like the idea of eating 50%. If I want to reduce the extra do I need to set it to stationary or more active. I'm not sure how it works

I say if you have your goal set to the absolute minimum calories - which you pretty much do - then YES DEFINITELY eat back at least a portion of the exercise calories.

My guideline is I eat them back if I'm hungry. I'm not going to force myself to eat calories back if I don't want to eat and vice versa.

1000 calories for walking seems very high. Are you sure that's right?

I can get 1000 extra calories for walking around 10 miles (fitbit). Whether this is accurate or not is another question... OP i try not to eat more than 50% of my exercise calories back.

I burn less than 500 calories walking six miles at 3mph. But I'm only 5'1", 53 years old, and weigh 148.7. I'd say eat back half of the exercise calories and see if you lose too fast or stay the same or gain, then readjust from there.

I'm also at 1250 and I use mine for overages. For example I don't measure/weigh my food so my exercise calories cover for me if I eyeball wrong. I also use them for that occasional time I go over 100 or so calories.

I will say right now I'm just walking and feel fine, should I start feeling tired I will reevaluate.

The higher your activity is set the less adjustment you will get from fitbit.

If I'm set to sedentary I get 600+ extra cals from fitbit but when I set myself to light activity it didn't start adding extra cals until after I walked 8k or more steps.

I'm set at lightly active and get anywhere from 300-500 calories added from my fitbit. After all these months, I find my fitbit to be very accurate so I currently eat about 90% back and still lose at my expected rate.
