Water intake

Hi everyone, so I just started My fitness pal on Sunday, and I don't understand how the water intake is measured. It says cups, but does that mean the actual serving (a cup) or like the size of a regular everyday cup?

1 cup is 8 fluid oz, so your 16 fluid oz water bottle from grocery store is like 2 cups. Every "cup" or container is different. I just go by 8 fluid oz for 1 cup.1

I don't measure how much water I drink. What I do to know if I am well hydrated, is to check the color of my pee when I go to the bathroom. If the color is yellow, it means it is too concentrated so I need more water, if the pee is clear, it is good.1

You don't want clear pee, it needs a little color. A light yellow is good. I don't track my cups either1

Saying that some particular amount of water intake is right/optimal completely ignores the possible variations. Given equal sizes/weights, a construction worker who's laboring outdoors in the summer heat is going to require a lot more water than a man who sits behind a desk in an air conditioned office all day. A person who works out intensely is going to require more water than somebody who sits on their couch and plays video games. Et cetera.
Drink enough liquids so that your urine is pale yellow to clear-ish. And remember that other drinks count as "water" besides just clear water. Coffee, tea, soda, juices, etc. all provide hydration.1 -
I use it for myself to track how many litres I've drank over the course of a day, so if I've logged 5 "cups" it's 5 litres. A "cup" as 8fl oz or 236ml just seems ungainly to think about as I need to drink such relatively large amounts.
