Wedding dress one size smaller?

I just bought a wedding dress that I adore, But am not sure about what size to order!

I tried on a 10, and it fit in the hips but would not zip up to my mid-back. There was an inch gap. When the seamstress measured me, she said I was a 10 around the bust (sigh) but a 12 around the waist and hips.

My wedding is in 10 months, and they said this style will take 3 months to arrive once it's ordered.

Should I use this dress as weight loss motivation, or just order the bigger size? I'm concerned the dress will not look the same in a 12 as it did in a 10

    If it were me I would order the 12 and then discuss with your seamstress when the timing of the alterations should be - it's much easier to adjust the fit of a dress by taking it in than by trying to make up for a lack of fabric and there is no guarantee that if you lose weight you will lose it in the spot where the dress is too small. Any decent seamstress can take in the hips a size, just show them the pictures of how you want the dress to fit in the hips and they can get it done.

    You can order a 10 if you want. You can have them switch out the back closure for lace up if you don't decrease in size up top. Likely that will be cheaper than taking the dress in on the hips. Depends on the style on the back of the dress though. Ask if that is an option first before ordering.

    Or order in the 12. They can always make it fit you that way.

    Depends on the fabric and how many layers too, not all fabrics will hold up to lacing, and most seamstresses charge per layer, so if the skirt is 3 layers it's going to be 3x the cost to have it altered than altering a single layer skirt.
