Just started MyFitnessPal over the summer break and dreading going back to the school staff room in September! Any seasoned teachers out there with tips? Trying to avoid eating alone in my classroom!

I am not a teacher but I know what it's like when someone brings in bagels or cake to the office. Make it a habit not to join in. Make it a rule only to eat what you brought in--don't eat in your classroom alone. The other teachers will stop offering you food is they know you're just going to say no. If they don't, they are likely offering food out of politeness and don't care if you have any or not.

If you feel like you 'have to' take a piece of cake or something, take it, stick a fork in it, stir it around and throw it away. I'm guessing people aren't watching how much you eat all that closely. Hope that helps

I hear ya! It's rough. It's our first week back and there have been donuts every morning! :o I try to drink a hot green tea after lunch for something that fills me up. I also just try to not look at the yummy table. :)

Just eat what you bring and have plenty of healthy snacks with protein. Make a zero junk food policy except maybe on the day before a break or something major like that.

Use the Food Diary of myfitnesspal to plan your day of eats before work. If you write it down, you think about it. If you think about it, you have the confidence of knowing that you're not going to be deprived of nutrition if you decline the free food in the staff room. Mentally, it helps you wall off that decision pathway.

One of the secretaries asked everyone in our area to not being treats in any more. She has diabetes, and the group agreed to support her. If treats are brought in now, they are in an area she never goes to. Maybe, at the next teacher in service, see if the group can support each other in only bringing healthy snacks. The team at my school has been great about it. Hopefully yours will be, too.

Could not agree more, I work in a law firm and the amount of cakes and goodies that circulate on a daily basis is dangerous. People offer sweets like they are earning commission, and with the festive season round the corner things are only going to get worse. Different forms send out hampers and chocolates to each other and I am not strong enough to resist a lot of the time. Will be adding people in this thread as the support would be appreciated, and hopefully my words of encouragement help out also.

I take care of the elderly and one of my clients live in a retirement home. I see treats dropped off for the nurses but its not offered to me so I don't eat it.. But when during activities they give residents treats I am offered it. I am trying to get stronger and decline some if it.

I like the idea of asking for team support,
but even if you don't feel comfortable with that, or your team isn't really a team & won't support you,
how about being the one who brings a fruit salad or some other healthy snack when the occasion arises?
    Lead by example.

I love Taste of Home, and everything they have is delicious.
