I am no doctor no am i an expert. I have plenty room to go before I have lost what I want BUTTTT (big butt) I think I have figured out a huge key to living a healthier lifestyle, in turn that helps loose weight. GET RID OF CABLE TV. (Satellite too) Several months ago my wife and I decided cable tv had to go. Besides the fact we are saving $100 a month it has freed up time to do many other things. Now I use the internet to keep up with news, and im sure it would be even better to get rid of that but cant do that yet. My advice toss the cable and fill the extra space with being active. Good luck everyone, I cant tell ya how much MFP has helped me. Shoot me a friend request if you would like. Cameron

That will be 'losing that weight'?
Do agree, haven't got cable etc, but am watching far less TV and doing more jobs - has helped me stop snacking by keeping active.0 -
I totally agree. Sometimes I find myself sitting around watching tv and I'm like wtf am I doing, I need to get up and move. It definitely helps people be lazy.. plus I find I eat more if I sit down in front of the tv to eat, so I now avoid it during meal times.0

I've never been a big TV watcher in fact i probably watch less then 2 hours of TV on a given day. I probably spend off and on more time reading these silly message boards at MFP0

You are definitely on to something.
I didn't get rid of my cable but I've learned how to DVR my favorite shows so that I can have ample enough time to work on me and spend more time with the family being active.0 -
my husband and i rarely ever watch tv so when we moved in together it was just never something we had installed. it has been an amazing method to staying active! i notice it a lot more now when we visit friends who have tv, that's all they want to do is sit on the couch in front of it!0

My husband and I got rid of TV altogether (we still have the actual TV, but it only comes out for the very occasional movie). If I'm dying to watch something from TV there's always hulu, but that's become rarer and rarer. Anyway, I completely agree - it is SO worth it to ditch the TV. Save money, free up time, and feel less like you're sucked into anything. It's amazing, too, now when I am around a TV, how much I notice commercials!! I feel like TVs are attacking me lol
Now, that said, I still spend WAY too much time on the internet between work stuff, MFP, and just goofing around - so I need to work on that.0 -
One of my favorite parts of MFP is people love to correct spelling, Yes it would be losing the weight. :-)0

You are absolutely correct (at least in my instance!) Got rid of the tv when we moved to current apt. (last December - oh, what a lovely time to move, btw, lol) Had the intention of buying a new one, but this time I'm glad that we don't have enough to spare for a luxury like this.
Something about television watching - maybe because it's so passive, I don't know - makes it seem to be a gateway to munching!!! At least I know that I wanted to munch on junk food while I watched.
While I still wish I had a bigger screen to watch movies, I'm quite happy watching my favs on the computer. Except for times like last night... when I was SO exhausted I would have loved to been able to lay back & just watch my favorites til I fell asleep - had a long, busy day. But that's passing - I'm still glad I don't have a TV, and esp. that I don't have (way too expensive, IMO) cable!0 -
This wouldn't work for me, because I do a lot of exercise WHILE watching my cable TV.0
