I was 365 I am currently 315.... I however have been finding it harder to lose weight, I go to the Gym 5 days a week and hardly eat.
Is it better too eat a certain amount of calories in order to lose weight? I'm not a breakfast person but I'm going to try and eat before I go to the gym... any advice would be great

Since you are asking for help, people are going to ask you to open up your diary to them. Just FYI.

You have to eat to lose weight...or your body goes into a starvation mode and decides to store the fat that you have. I know, I struggle with the same thing. Logic tells us the less you eat, the more you lose. However, not always the case. Good luck!

You have to eat - for sure. Your body holds onto what its got if you aren't getting enough in. Sometimes when I bump my calories up I experience an immediate weight loss - and high protein low carb really seems to help me.

I don't eat before the gym because I go so early - at 6 a.m. - but I definitely eat a high protein breakfast after.

You definitely need to eat more to lose, especially if you are going to the gym. Your metabolism begins to adjust & slow down cause it thinks your body is starving. I have a problem getting all my calories in and I don't exercise much yet but notice that the weight loss isn't as great as it is when I'm closer to my calories goals each day. You should be at least getting in 1500 but because you're a guy working out as often as you do you may need a little more. This website even helps you figure out how much you should be eating if you plug in all your stats & goals in the settings. Use the tools, they do help:-)

What is your goal for losing weight? Do you want to keep it off long term? If so, you really need to eat a reasonable amount every day. If you feel like you hardly eat anything after already losing 50 pounds, you aren't eating enough. If you continue this way, once you reach your goal and start eating normally again, your body will put a lot of the weight back on fast.

Do you follow MFP's guidelines? You could probably still stay in the 2 pounds per week and be safe. Eat what MFP tells you, including the exercise cals, though if you aren't used to it, you may want to phase this in gradually.

As long as you are getting healthy sources of calories, your body should feel a lot better and start losing weight again. Some other helpful things include drinking more water (it is summer, you sweat more during the day without realizing it) and watching your salt intake.

I think breakfast is a good idea, if it is hard for you to get up and make a healthy breakfast, find something that is easy for you to make the night before and then eat cold in the morning, or reheat. That is what I do, and I find it makes me feel more full for the rest of the day.

    Best of luck!

    You need to eat breakfast.

You should also make sure to eat a little before exercise and have a snack afterwards. Nothing big, just a bit of fuel to keep going.

I feel you brother, and eating is probably a pretty good pointer - there are some good posts on here so far, and I thought I'd chime in both because I've been where you have been both in weight and in not losing like I wanted to...

When I was around your weight - based on my age, my "maintenance" weight was 4,000 calories a day.
I was eating 1800 a day and NOT eating back my workout calories...
I fell into starvation mode and didn't realize it...

I went to eating 2400 calories a day and eating back half of my calories from exercise (roughly 500-700 - as you burn a LOT of calories at that weigh just by moving lol) and went back to dropping 2-5 pounds a week quick. Weird... I know... but it made a big diff..

The other thing I noticed was carbs... you really do need *some* carbs in your diet and if you let your carbs fall too far you can put yourself into a weird state where you aren't burning protein primarily (ketosis) but you aren't getting enough carbs for your body to properly burn those either - thus confusing your body to the point of not losing much...

lastly - Sodium can kill you too - I was having to drink about 20 glasses of water a day (UGH) just to keep up with what I later realized was WAY too much sodium in my diet -

I really hope some of this helps, and if you want to talk about it more - please do not hesitate to let me know brother!
    C.J.

PS: fantastic job on your loss thus far - that is awesome!

try to stick to the recommended allowances, and spread the calories out so you eat every 3-4 hours, that way your body wont be trying to store food, it will burn it off instead

The other problem with "not eating" is that you cannot sustain that choice over the long haul. Ideally you (and me too) will find a healthy routine which you can keep up for the rest of your life. I know that seems daunting, but ultimately that is what the goal ought to be (IMO).
