Hi so I weigh 227 pounds, biggest I've ever been. My goal is 170lbs. I get little to no activity. I have mental illnesses, so I do take meds. I take Zoloft, vyvanse, Wellbutrin, and vistiral. I don't know how many calories I should be eating. I am vegetarian. I try to do the best I can. I've never been this committed before to losing weight. The thinnest I've ever been was 145lbs, only because I danced two hours a day and I took a high dosage of add med which made me lose my appetite, so it wasn't a healthy weight loss. I know that my depression has made me gain weight...it is the reason I am so heavy. I am giving up alcohol, because now I have a beer belly. I'm just so stressed about this...I don't know what I'm doing. :( please help me. I am so overweight.

Plug your stats into MFP, eat the calories it gives you, get a food scale and weigh everything you eat. You don't have to weigh your food forever (if you don't want to), it's just a good starting point to get you used to smaller portions and to make sure you are being as accurate as possible.

All the tools you need are right here. Good luck, you can do it!!

Weighing and then logging your food can help you see patterns. I've been relying on peanuts for a simple, low-carb snack, but they're fairly high in calories for the volume I get.

Create a list before you go grocery shopping and stick to it. If there are foods you tend to overeat, don't buy them. Search the web for nutritious, low-calorie recipes that sound tasty or at least intriguing. Don't be afraid to try new things. Maybe it'll be gross or bland but at least you're learning more about what you like or don't like. Maybe it'll be awesome!

There's an app I use called Booster Buddy that helps me keep track of my emotional state over time. It has a database of different coping strategies as well. Depression can definitely affect your success, so don't forget to take care of your emotional health too.

Something else to keep in mind and it helped me tremendously is to pre-plan what I was going to eat for the day. I would think about EVERYTHING I would eat and record it on MFP. Don't leave things until the last minute because if you are anything like me, you will go for the 'easy, quick, junky' option. Try not to drink your calories.

Another thing I suggest is to not have anything tempting in the house, if you want it then you go and buy it (but only one chocolate bar for example, enough for that moment). I find that not having temptations in the house makes a huge difference... but if I really want it I go buy it, eat it, log it and move on (no guilt). Find snacks you like that are within your calories.

    I 100% agree with this!

As for not knowing what you're doing OP. When i first started trying to lose weight I had no idea what a calorie was, i didn't know how many of these calories i should or should not be eating, what the hell was a food scale? I thought i had to eat rabbit food to lose weight, and a million other confusing tid bits of information. But i came here and read, and read and read some more, and i still do. Like i said earlier, everything you need (to be successful) is right here.
