I know this is going to be hard, but I need to do it. I'm losing my ability to walk and to go places, cook in the kitchen, stand for 5 min n I don't like it, course I'm only 40. I know today is my first day but I wake up 12:20 pm n I need to change my way. The only good thing is I'm so excited my first gool is going to 300 n good luck to me.

Best of luck getting started. The first step is to decide it's time for change and set a manageable goal. You're off to a great start!!3

Good luck to you! Take one day at a time, make a plan and do your best to stick with it! You can add me as a friend if you'd like, a support team is really important during your journey (I have found)3

You can do this!! Be patient with yourself and the scale. When the scale isn't cooperating for me, I take my measurements and resolve to be even more diligent in tracking. Lots of different diets and exercise plans works. If you get bored with one thing, try another rather than stopping. I always get a lot of flack from my friends about buying exercise equipment. They call them coat hangers but the fact is I don't care if I spend $1,000 a year on equipment. My life and continued health is worth more than that!!!4

My favorite part about this is that you said you're starting today.
It's a pet peeve of mine when people say "I'm going to start Monday". I get people have lives, routines, schedules, but if something is important to you, you need to make it a priority. It seems like you are. Good on ya!1 -
You can do this!3

You are beginning a life changing event. Like you, I've recently begun to take steps to improve my overall health, and life. Feel free to add me as a friend, and we can do this together! I sure can use motivation, and will do the same for you.2

greboricua,
So glad you are starting your new way of life! Don't consider this a "diet". Consider it your new way of eating the rest of your life. One of the most important tools is a food scale. Weigh everything you eat and log it in mfp every day. Also, make smaller goals you can readily achieve - like the first 10 pounds, then the second 10 pounds, etc. You don't need luck - you can do it as long as your keep your calories below your set amount.
A great group to join on here is 100+ Pounds With No Surgery. A lot of supportive people in this group, and they have experienced what you are going through, and will guide and support you - with no judging.
I started (again) on mfp on May 11. I also was to the point that I was having trouble walking because my feet were so swollen. I could only wear my sandals and had to lengthen the straps on them with velco. My oldest granddaughter's graduation was the end of May, and I knew if I didn't do something NOW I wouldn't be able to go to her graduation because of the amount of walking involved. Since that time, I have lost 24.5 pounds. It's already made a big difference in my walking and in how I feel.
I have been on and off MFP since 2011 and would always quit just a few weeks after starting - when I would slow down or stop losing weight. The most important thing I learned from this is - I need to log my food into mfp every day and plan to do this the rest of my life. When I quit logging, I quit being mindful of what I am putting in my mouth, and have always gained back what I lost, plus some. This time, I'm not quitting!5 -

Good luck. YOU CAN DO THIS! One step at a time. If this helps, this is what is working for me. My main goal was to lose 50 lbs in a year. I started January 3rd. I set my first goal at 15 lbs. Once I reached that I set me second goal at 17.2 (personal reason for that). Once that was met I am now into my final 15. I am 10.2 lbs from my 50. I, yes me, can & I will do this and so can you. As some wise person once told me (with good intentions on their part), "If you want to lose weight, stay out of the kitchen." Though you walked 993 steps that is awesome. Tomorrow strive for 1,000. Every step is a good one and before you know it you will be logging more steps than you thought possible. YOU CAN DO THIS.2

You totally got this --insert excited emojis because apparently mfp won't let me--. If you're looking for friends/support feel free to add me :-).0

Your first step was realizing you needed to change and your second was joining this app so CONGRATS on that! If you log on everyday and document and weigh all your food, slowly but surely you will start to see changes and your body will thank you for it!!0

I started where you are. This is a highly personal journey so please give yourself a break. You got in nearly a thousand steps today!
I suggest baby goals set weekly and re-evaluate. If something is not working have a good think why and try something else. Rinse and repeat. Every day, every hour is a decision towards your health and slip ups are simply water under the bridge. Be kind to yourself.
My walking goal was 4,000 steps to start and after that failed I made it a thousand steps a day, at least six days a week. I met that so I added 10% and then 10% again. When walking got too easy I signed up for a 5 K fun walk. When those got too easy I took a running class. My mobility is returned and it is wonderful. All success to you.0 -
good luck0

Great job on the food prep. I have found throughout my journey that when I let my prep slide so does my calorie deficit. As for the walking, there is only one person on this website that knows is 993 steps is enough for you, and that's you. This is a great place to get support and that's what people do here. They won't tell you that what you are doing isn't good enough, they will give you advice or opinions on how to do it better. If you feel as though 993 steps is enough, or it's more than you usually do, then GREAT WORK! On just your first and second days you have already made huge progress towards meeting your goals. As mentioned before, try to get 1000 steps tomorrow, and then 1020 the next day.
If you can continue to make small steps each day then you will look back to your original posts week after week, month after month and be able to see just how far you have really come. Time really does fly and by the end of the year if you keep making small changes you are going to be a person in a completely new body.
Good luck on moving forward, I wish you the best!0 -

If anyone says it's not enough, just ignore them. As long as you are making progress, that's what counts. You are not going to start at walking 3453 miles a day lol. Try to do just a little more each day, as much as you can without making yourself want to give up. Progress will happen. And preparing your meals will get easier. I promise. You can do this. Being ready is half the battle and it sounds like you are0 -
It's not easy to change for the better but look you doing it. Keep up the good work and fight until there is no fight left in you!

You can do this. The first step is to start your journey. You will have tough days, but it is important to keep going even if you mess up. I have done it many times. We are all here rooting for you. PS Check out Danny Gets Fit on youtube for more inspiration.0
