I'm looking for some tasty Red Wine suggestions. I tend to stick more to whites and blushes but I'm looking to cash in on the benefits of Red Wine:)

I LOVE malbec! It's my favorite red. My favorite I've had is an $11 bottle by Tamari.

I LOVE Jam Jar. It's only $15 a bottle and it's great especially if you like fruity wines (which I'm assuming you do if you usually stick to whites and blushes). The only problem is I've only found 1 package store around me that sells it any other one I go to never has any idea what I'm talking about but it's called Jam Jar. The label is white and the top has red and white checkers on it (just so you know bc I usually get pointed to some other wine that has "jam" in the name)

BV Vinyards makes a Coastal series of wines - the Coastal Merlot is excellent, and one I often suggest to people who aren't sure if they like "Red Wines" or not - I'm a Merlot, Syrah, and Sangiovese lover - and the blends that are made out of them... but for most they can be a little "bitter" in the beginning....

I really like BV Vinyards, however; so try out the Coastal and let me know what you think :)

Rodney Strong is a good brand of red wines, I like Mondavi reds as well! For some cheaper reds, I like Clos Du Bois and Yellow Tail reds are half decent!
    Hope that helps!

I LOVE Oliver Winery's Soft Red wine. And if you're looking to lessen the calories mix half wine with half club soda for a red wine spritzer :)

I've never had a bad Australian wine - I'm a particular fan of Shiraz. Penfold's and Jacob's Creek are two of my family's favorites.

Cheap (you can find it on sale for $4/bottle) but really yummy (my favorite outside of one expensive Romanian vintage)... Barefoot Merlot. The cabernet is okay, but I like merlots much better.

edit to correct incorrect apostrophe usage.

I love that Merlot, too!! But I think I usually pay more... :noway:

When not on sale it's usually in the $6-$10 range depending on the store. I just stock up during sales.

Thanx to the OP, what a great topic!

I'm "bookmarking" this for later reading - loving the Sangria ideas! I'm doing the 17 Day Diet so it'll be a couple more weeks before I can have wine again, but I want to make it special so these ideas are fabulous!

    :drinker:

Trader Joes carries La Granja 360 it is a Tempranillo.. Spanish red, that is excellent for less then $5 a bottle. It goes great with grilled meats.

For everyday drinking I like these Merlots:

    Redrock
    Boggle
    Cupcake
    HobNob

    Just so-so:
    Red Diamond
    BlackStone

    And some nice Chiantis:

Ruffino (serveral different ones to choose)
    Ruffino Ducale (reserve)
    Querceto (and the classico)
    Castello della Panere
    Santa Cristina

    Just so-so:
    DaVinci

Also look for some Tuscanos(Modus(from Ruffino) for one), Barolos(ALBE for one) , Nebbiolo(Damilano for one).

I don' know anything but I know what I like and these are some low cost wines that I can enjoy with out breaking the bank.

NOTE: These are not $4 a bottle! Some can be had for under $10 but some are $18 to $40 a bottle.

Riojas and Malbecs are my favorites. If you haven't tried many reds you might want to ease into Pinot Noirs. They are pretty earthy..but thats just my opinion.

    Definately malbec!

Also try adding diet coke to red wine (not a good one though - that would be a complete waste!!!). Very popular in South Africa it's called a Katemba.

Malbec is my fav too! If you have a Trader Joe's near you, you can get a very good one for $3.99 a bottle! They also have a $10.99 one, Garcon, I think it is that is wonderful! :)

I love Malbec. I've tried many Reds, but I have not had a bad Malbec yet! I just made a pitcher of Sangria with it this morning and can't wait to have it tonight! :)

I'm not the biggest fan of red wine, but I switched over too for some of the benefits. I always have to add some diet sprite or diet 7-up in it so it's not so bitter to me. yum yum!
