Getting enough protein

My calorie deficit is very high up to a 1,000 a day. I do strength training 3x's a week to retain muscle mass but I haven't focused on my protein as much. I'm changing that now by drinking protein shakes (the one I made this morning had 50g).
What should my protein goal be to retain muscle mass (I weigh 165). Also will this accelerate my fat loss progress and will I see better results physically (muscle definition?

You'll get a lot of different numbers thrown at you. I am set for 30% of my calories from protein. I try and get a minimum of 100g per day, even if I have to have a protein shake to hit that. This works out to almost 1g/lb of lean body weight based on my supposed body fat %. I currently weight 135 and have approximately 24% body fat.0

There's alot more to it when retaining muscle mass and body fat loss but 1 gram per pound is a safe number especially if your strength training0
