When losing weight, that is all I think about

This is the third time in my life that I am going to lose some weight. Does anyone out there have any pointers of not making losing weight your entire life. The last time I did this I felt I was on a hamster wheel and it was the only thing I thought about during the day. And when do you stop losing. It's frustrating.

It seems to be the way. Maybe a movie or book at the end of the day to help distract

That is true! But, you are on a mission and in order to accomplish that you have to be mindful of what your goals are and what you need to do to achieve them. Baby steps! Find what works for you.1

I've been told that I'm OCD about controlling my food and exercise, Seems to work for me though.1

At about the same time as I started losing weight (Feb 2015), I also started working toward my Master's degree ... slowly, one class at a time, while I work full time.
That actually helped a lot because I got into an eating pattern that worked for me, didn't have to think about eating, and could focus on my class and homework and things.
When I finished my first class, I was down 15 kg. I took a 1-month diet break that coincided with my semester break and when my next class started, I resumed the diet, and when I finished that class, I was down another 11 kg and have been maintaining since.1 -
Me too! I went on a similar journey in my twenties wanting to get in shape. I got super obsessed but it served me well--I began running and worked up to running half marathons. Then, my focus changed. First it was studying for getting my architectural license. Then marriage, life, kids, a stressful job. The weight crept back on over the last 10 years.
I'm about to turn 40 and I'm focused again on fitness. I'm going to lose this weight but I worry about how to keep it off without the super obsession. Or do you always have to have the obsession? Is there a happy medium?

I'm the same. It gets less as you go on cause you get in a routine with it but cause I only have 5 pounds left to go..it's just on my mind cause I'm so close ha0

I don't know. It seems like all I think about most times. I prefer to think about like this. Of course it's all I think about. It's a heck of a lot of work and requires attention. I'll think about other stuff when I've beat this, but for now this is the most important job in my life.
(Truth is my worry is that I'll always think about it even when I've settled in my goal. Fear of putting it back on I guess)2 -
I've come to the point I try to make healthy choices in with food, but I also know I will be burning it off because I exercise everyday. The fear damian is talking about.....I keep a old set of clothes just in case I get heavier...but I also have clothes that are smaller. I was 270lbs and 145lbs in my life as a adult. Now I'm 205lbs.0

Glad to hear there are many of you like me. I am super obsessed during this weight loss journey. I think mostly it's because I'm losing so slowly. And I've said quite often it's my job and got to get 'er done each day. It helps keep me focused.1

I think it is normal for the first month or so… but you recognize it is a problem.that's good. Settle into a routine..and set goals for other areas of your life and work on those. You'll find it actually makes the "dieting" easier. Just think.. you can't stay in this mindset.. you have to start living your life with balance. So start by making a to do list each day with goals other than your diet.
Also, i find when i don't prepare food to grab and go on Sunday night for the week… i think about it more because i have to make my snacks and lunch every day.. so maybe taking an evening to prepare all your food and package it will take it off your mind. good luck!2 -
I read scripture about not worrying and try to meditate on that and I listen to contemporary Christian or Christian rock music when I'm working out. I finally came to see that I can't do this on my own so when I try to keep my focus on Jesus who is pulling me through this, then I do much better thought wise. When I stray and don't pray and read for a while I become obsessed with what the scale says or what I will eat. On my own I've never been able to lose more than 40 or 60 pounds before quitting but with this new approach I've lost 113.1

My exercise is stuff that I enjoy. Sometimes with friends sometimes alone. Walking, biking, paddling-they all bring me joy as well as helping with the weight loss.
I'm not super focused on the food but I do pay attention to it.
Seems to work for me.0
