This weekend I'm going on a mini-vacation (yay!). I may hit the hotel gym, but I'm thinking about just swimming.

My problem is that when I calculate for "swimming leisurely", it comes up that I'll burn 500 calories in 1 hour?!?!? Is that even possible? I'm pretty sure I don't want to risk taking my HRM in the water lol.

So, everyone that swims for exercise....does this sound accurate to you?

for an hour!? yes easily if anything i would have said not enough!

i burn 300 calories running at 6mph for 45 mins so if you think about everything your body goes through whilst swimming and then think about what 60mins has on your body then yes easily 500

It's true! Its one of THE BEST calorie blasters out there ... as long as you don't consider paddling around in 2 feet of water to be leisure swimming. Just a normal paced stroke, whether in the pool, lake or ocean will burn that many calories! Remember, rarely do people on vacay swim for an hour straight, but two 30 min sessions, and you're in business!!!

PS. Try ice skating: leisure pace in the winter! It's awesome too!!
