Is this thing on?...

I've been using this app for almost a year (since last October) but I've been doing it solo. I didn't think I needed or wanted to make friends on here. No offense. I guess I didn't want strangers seeing me if I stumbled along the way. I've lost 71 pounds since I started last October and I think I'd like to test the waters of this thing people call "friendship." So if you want to add me or friend me or however it's done, feel free. I promise I'm not as weird as this post makes me sound. Hahaha

I did the same thing except I gave up. Now Im adding people like crazy. I found out recently Im really competitive, so I hate seeing people lose weight and Im eating my life away.1

Fantastic job on dropping that 71# !! @jeromeantone3
Welcome to "this thing people call "friendship." I have a feeling you'll like it, great for support and also works for others since your loss will inspire many to realize if you can do it, they can too! It's the pay it forward method.

I followed a similar path as you (not adding friends immediately), but I only held out for thirty days. I wanted to prove to myself that I could stick with this thing before I added any pals, because I did not want to end up quitting and embarrassing myself.
I remember posting a question or comment on the forum sometime in the first couple of weeks and immediately receiving a friend request, but I didn't respond. I waited dutifully for that thirty day mark. The funny thing was, when the thirty days came and went, I accepted the friend request and the person who had sent it had never logged in again since the day she sent the request. I had actually outlasted her, lol!
Anyway, that was nearly four years ago and here I am, still plugging along. I wish that I could say that my tenure on MFP has resulted in a steady downward trajectory of my average weight, but the truth is my weight trend line has been up, down and sideways. My problem is that I suffer from an "intermittent lack of diet adherence." (ajcn.nutrition.org/content/100/3/787.abstract)
I have kept off the bulk of the weight that I lost during the first year, but I haven't reached my ultimate goal. I will get there eventually. I am just taking the scenic route. :P
Feel free to add me, if you'd like another pal in your posse.1 -
