One day I do 11,000 steps and when I sync my Fitbit to MFP - it gives me 685 calories burned. The next day I do 11000 steps and it gives me 435 calories burned. What gives?

It might be a fluctuation is your heart rate reading? Are you wearing the band very loosely?0

The adjustment isn't based off your steps. It's based off your total calorie burn for the day which includes everything: steps, activity, exercise.
Ex: I had 13,000 steps the other day. I also burned 2400 calories. This is the 2 pieces of info fitbit sends to MFP.
MFP then compares that calorie burn to what it thinks I should have burned. MFP thinks I burn 1800 a day based on my activity level from my setup. 2400-1800=600. So it gave me 600 for an adjustment. I've gotten 500 adjustments for the same number of steps before because I burned less throughout the day.

I don't think the calories are very accurate as mine always shows well over 2000 cal even when I don't have a very active day and my BMR is only around 1100 cal.0
