Any ideas for where to find a public scale?

I can't really afford a scale right now, and I don't need one, but I'd like to check my weight once in a while. I don't want to go to my campus health center and ask to get weighed because that would be strange and possibly concerning. Does anyone know where I might find a scale in a public place to get an idea? The grocery store at home (not college) has one but I don't think that's the case here. Not sure how else I might weigh myself but I'd like to check my progress once in a while.

Some pharmacies and Walmarts have the coin operated public scales, or maybe ask a friend or on campus doctor (if there is one).

There's one at my fitness center and at my local pool, too

Here in Houston and in most U.S. cities, drug store chains like CVS and Walgreens, and Walmart and HEB pharmacies have machines that can take your blood pressure, check your weight, and your BMI.

Student health or the campus gym probably have a scale.

Infrequent weight ins mean few sampling points.

Time of day, time of month, what you ate the night before, what you've eaten or drunk since waking up, clothes you're wearing since I assume that naked would not be an option... all these will affect what the scale shows. As such a 5-10lb variation does not provide you with enough information to draw conclusions.

Which is another way of saying, "Don't waste your effort". Take photos of yourself and note the fit of your clothes. That's more reliable.

Or you could take measurements... a tape measure is cheap and at least you will know it is more consistent than using different public scales.

Thank you all for the advice! I can wear light clothes and weigh in the mornings, and I'm small-ish so my weight doesn't fluctuate that much; I just want an approximation to reassure myself that I'm not gaining, basically.

Check out Goodwill or a thrift store. You should be able to find one for a few $

I went to Walmart the other day and there were several open ones on the floor.

At my university, there is a scale in the women's change room at the gym. I assume there's one in the men's change room too.

    Fit of clothes is better

The Rite Aid drugstore (USA) has one in this thing called the Hibi station that also checks blood pressure. Some shopping malls have them, too.

Also, do note that two different scales could show a large variation between them independent of the issues of clothes, shoes and what you've eaten.

I don't understand how being smallish will do anything but exacerbate the measurement issue. A 1lb measurement difference represents a larger % of your total weight as compared to someone who is larger

Thank you! There's a rite aid nearby so I'll definitely check it out.
@Everyone else, I don't really trust my own judgment about how I look, and it's easy to shrink or stretch clothes, so this is my preferred measurement. I just want an approximation. I'm in the healthy range anyway so I'm not terribly worried.
