Weight gain from swimming?

I weigh myself every day, so I know how much by weight fluctuates day to day, and I know how much I gain during my time of the month etc... When I swam at the community pool I was losing a pound or so a week, this time swimming in the river, with big waves against a current, was a big workout! I keep my protein up, carbs and sodium down, and my weigh in shows I'm up a pound again! I'm not doing anything different, although maybe I'm drinking a little less water... Could my muscles be more worked out compared to swimming at a community pool and now against waves and a current? I've never gained weight on weeks I do lots of working out, so this is very frustrating! Why would I have (so I think) water weight gain if I've never had that issue before? I was expecting big losses this week and last week, now I'm just up 2 pounds! Down 71 total in the last year

You already answered your own question. Normal fluctuations. Women actually can gain in their cycle around ovulation and the actual menses.

And 1 pound is nothing this week or last week... I presume this new way of swimming is new, so you changed the workout a bit, perhaps a little more volume and intensity.. and add in possible hydration or lack there of, perhaps other things in your diet from yesterday to today..

Do not sweat this it is not real weight..

Well I normally gain a pound around ovulation and a few during time of the month... But I'm not near either so I shouldn't have a gain! Still hoping it's just water weight just from the exercise, that scale is frustrating

I do know when you take up any new exercise regime your muscles can retain water for a while. I think that is probably it. Are you sore sometimes?

Try a weight trending app like Libra, weighgrapher, Happy Scale, something so you can watch your monthly cycle, day to day fluctions, all the things that are masking your loss. Let the scale work for you and not against you per se. You can see trends that will most likely show you fat loss when the scale actually says NOT.. :)

Probably water weight or normal fluctuations.

FYI - carbs are very important to building muscle, just get them from a healthy source like whole grains.
