Help? Calorie Deficit?

So I have a lot of weight to lose, but my question is about my calorie deficit (I think?? I'm new to this.)
I did about 2.5 hours of mountain biking today and burned off so many calories that I am supposed to eat like 2000 calories for dinner?
How much of a calorie defecit is ok? If I were to eat nothing else tonight and went to bed would that be ok? I don't know if this is making sense... I am usually around 100 cals from my daily goal, so I just don't know that if I am like 1000 or 800 cals away from my daily goal if that will be ok?

Some people seem to eat all their exersize calories and some people don't even log their exercise!! I guess - eat a little more than you would have if you are still hungry, don't eat more if you are not still hungry!!0

I'd say eat what you can and don't worry about the rest.
The danger of eating much below your recommended intake (what people call starvation mode) does not happen over night, just like you don't get to an obese BMI by overeating a single day.
It is all about lifestyle and prolonged exposure to the situation you put your body in. So for a one-off once in a while I don't think you'll screw anything up (whether it be one day of "under"- or "over" eating), but if you find yourself that it becomes the norm rather than the exception you might want to re-consider your diet to fit with your exercise to keep up a sustainable calorie deficit.0 -
If you dont' do it for a prolonged period of time you are fine.
If you are hungry, eat....if not...don't.

I've done this before & had a slightly larger than normal sized dinner, but as joehempel says, you'll feel more hungry than usual in the morning - the bigest trick is not to over eat the next morning.
Also as mentioned earlier in the post if this is a 'one off' & not regular then it should cause to much of an issue0 -
It is not going to be the end of the world if you occasionally dont eat all those calories, but start thinking about days that you plan to burn like this - and make sure you start eating more every meal that day so that you don't have 1000's of calories to eat at night.....
This is a good day to have some protein shakes, and also eat some healty fats e.g. avocado, olives, eggs - also fruit like bananas - all higher in calories, so helps you to up your calories on high burn days0 -
never force yourself to eat calories before bed or at the end of a day, but the next day, try to plan better and if you know you will be earning those calories, space them out, throughout the day..........if you throw 2000 calories in your belly before bed it will not be used, and will be stored..............aka, turned to fat0

I am soooo thankful for everyone's responses and advice!!!
And ps- what a bummer that all those healthy foods tend to be higher in calories! I pretty much eat ONLY healthy foods, but I don't think I have the correct balance of everything needed. That's my goal. Anywho, thanks again!0
