a few lbs that make all the difference?

i have noticed something over the years and was wondering if others have it too...
i have about a 3-4 lb window where if i cross over the threshold, i look different. i literally cross over from "normal" looking to fat (and vice versa). its really strange because i can lose/gain 10-15 lbs and wont look any different but once i hit those magic numbers, i suddenly see it. so weird.

It depends on where you are in terms of weight and BF%...I normally sit around 12% BF so 5 Lbs either way is pretty noticeable...up 5 Lbs and I definitely start to look a little chubby around my mid section...down 5 Lbs and I look very lean.

When I was heavier, those kind of weight swings made zero difference in my appearance.

Height might be a reason. I'm 5'1 and 5 pounds can make a world of a difference for me; especially, in the face.

i am short (5'3) but overweight. not skinny at all so a few lbs normally wouldnt make much of a dent. thats why its fascinating ;)

    Definitely.

I have a tipping point where I don't feel/look as lean as I would on or before that point.

There is a 10lbs difference between when I wake up in the morning and when I go to bed at night.

Yes! I relate to this so much!
Only this time I hit that 5 lb mark, and continued to gain another 10 on top of it.

Five pounds for me makes a HUGE difference. Five pounds less and I look way too skinny, Five pounds more and I go from very visible muscle definition to looking very soft. It's pretty interesting to me now because when I was overweight I could gain as much as 20LBS with no change in size and hardly notice a visible change either.
