quitting soda

I have started back to my diet again since I have gotten some place with a fridge again. I have been able to cut back on the soda by forcing myself to drink smart water. It has a better taste then most bottled waters I've tried. I still have a glass or two a day but I sip on it and make it last for at least an hour or more. I had a 16 oz can this morning around 5:30 and there was still some left when I was getting ready to leave for the library at 8:30.
I need an idea for a healthy snack that tastes good and is not messy. Something I can sneak into the library. Any ideas. With out the rude comments about the soda habit. I am working on that. It's not as easy for some people as it is for others. I just need some ideas for healthy snacks.

Congrats on getting back on track! Have you tried switching to diet soda? It is 0 calories and it really helps me when I'm craving a soda. Nothing wrong with soda in moderation, though, if you enjoy it and want to fit it into your calories.
Non-messy snacks that can be snuck into a library? I'm thinking cheese sticks, nuts, pretzels, Cheez-its, grapes - just a few things off the top of my head that are go-to quick snacks for me.1 -
Good girl!! I just did the same. One week since I stopped Diet Coke. Proud of ya!
My new favorite drink1 -
I never used to drink soda/carbonated drinks, i picked up the habit since 2013 and i've been having a few cans per day, i always go for zero cal / diet versions as i don't like full fat/sugar drinks, which is the only positive, other than that it's a habit i need to stop. Drinking a can of cherry pepsi max as i type now #noragratsss0

There's absolutely nothing wrong with soda if it fits into your calorie goals. I switched to diet soda and other zero calorie beverages decades ago, though, because I realized that I'd rather eat my calories than drink them.
If you're having difficulty with plain water you could try things like Crystal Light, True Lemon or other flavorings. Adding something to water doesn't make it "not water". Sodas are made with water as are coffee, tea and pretty much anything else that's a beverage. Don't get sucked into the "you must drink so many ounces of plain water each day" fallacy. It's never been true; it's a misinterpretation of a 50 or 60 year old study. Drink if you're thirsty and drink what you like as long as you have the calories available.1 -
Library snacks:
A small packet of nuts (if you don't have an allergy)
A protein bar
Cut up fruit
Cheese0 -
Almost forgot! Snack ideas include protein bars, nuts, string cheese (although you might need an ice pack to keep it cold wherever you're hiding it), and hard boiled eggs. You might look into the packs of 100 calorie snacks and stuff, too.1

If you are someone who drinks a lot of soda during the day I would recommend slowly tapering off instead of going cold turkey to avoid a nasty headache from the lack of caffeine.
Snack idea:
Beef jerky
Protein bars
Wheat thins
Nuts
Cheese
Sugar snap peas0 -
All these ideas sound great except that I can't eat nuts due to no teeth and no dentures at this time. Will fix that in the near future. Cheese and me hmmmmm........... I love cheese but it don't like me and I stay away from fiber one due to chicory root. Maybe I'll try some fruit pieces. I love bananas, watermelon, grapes, apples, oranges, cantaloupe, pineapples. Thanks every one for the ideas.0

Air popped corn won't be greasy. If you put a little I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Spray on it - you can add tasty toppings - Kernel Seasons makes a bunch. But homemade taco popcorn, or cinnamon popcorn is yummy.
I drink 1 or 2 diet soda's everyday. All things in moderation for me.1 -
Just no freaking way I would give up my Coke Zero !!!

Another great alternative to soda, if a little pricier, is Kombucha by JT or Kevita. Good stuff- plus, it's got probiotics so it's actually doing some good.1
