My first 10k!

In one of my more spontaneous moments on Wednesday, I decided to sign up for a 10k run that was held this morning. After I registered I wondered if I was NUTS! I hadn't run farther than 4.2 miles and that was a week ago...this was 6.2. Hit the treadmill after baseball that night and got 4.75 miles in hoping that along with some race adrenaline would help me through.
I was so nervous this morning. Never having run a 10k before I had no idea what to expect! I started out with a comfortable pace and identified a couple of girls I wanted to try and keep pace with. The 'grey tank girl' was always in sight ahead of me and the 'purple tank girl' and I jockeyed back and forth. About mile 5.2, she pulled her earphones out and we chatted a bit. (She talked a bit more than I!) I told her that I had her and another girl id'd as people I wanted to keep pace with. She was hoping for a PR and told me that I was a strong runner and doing great. (What? Really? Me?) Well, she really helped me through to the end!! I learned at the end of the race her name is Megan--so "Thanks Megan!".
We crossed the finish line together finishing at 58:53. I came in 148th overall and 18th in my class. (I never did hear if she got her PR.) Needless to say, I'm so happy with my first 10k results.
If anyone would have told me 6 months ago that I would be running a 10k, I would have said they're nuts. I've never thought of myself as a runner, but as time progresses and lbs keep coming off, I'm starting to see one! If you think you can't do it, I challenge you to push yourself and do it! It's amazing the things you truly can do!
Next up: Warrior Dash MN on July 23rd for sure and I have a few more races in mind. Was thinking 5k's but now, they just might be 10k's!

My first 10k will be in two weeks, and that's about the time I'm hoping for. Anything under an hour will make me do a happy dance!

sometimes we just need to do those crazy impulses that push us to try new things0 -
Great job!
I think it's funny that others pick people in their races they want to keep pace with. I do the same thing at all of my races!
Maybe we'll see each other at Warrior Dash! I'm in the 3pm wave. Either way, best of luck!0
