Proper way to track workouts with MFP

Hi! I have been using MFP for a number of years off and on and I really have enjoyed it. I especially like how easy it is to scan food. I've recently started using a smartwatch. It's an androidwear based watch and I use Google Fit with it. I do have GoogleFit 'syncing' with MyFitnessPal but I am curious what is the best way to track my workouts? I go to Planet Fitness. Should I be manually entering my cardio and strength workout data after every workout or should I rely on the steps syncing with my watch? I am worried that MFP is counting my calories burned with my steps (detected from my watch) and the calories burned on the treadmill.

IMHO I wouldn't track any workouts as long as your consistently doing them on a consistent basis.

If you are losing/gaining weight to quickly just manually adjust calories.

All those gadgets are marketed to make money and really aren't necessary.

I take my watch off during all exercise that is sync with Google fit.. that way it's not being double logged if I log it myself

Never thought about the double dipping between the step counter and manually logging workouts.

if you have an activity tracker thats sync'd to mfp so logging your calorie burn from work out why would you then add it manually again?

I use a Fitbit and if I manually added a workout I have to add the time I started and the duration. Fitbit will negate those calories if I have corresponding activity on my Fitbit. That automatically keeps it from giving you double credit. Your smart watch should work the same way.

It's much easier, though, to just let the tracker enter the steps for you for your cardio. You can enter the strength data if you want to keep track of what you did but I wouldn't enter it for the calories. Strength training doesn't really burn that much and MFP likes to give you a lot of calories for it; that's where the real danger in all of this lies.

I log every through Garmin Connect, of course you need a Garmin device to do that. And allow MFP and GC to work out the numbers.

As far as Weights go, I log all of my workouts individually then, and all of my cardio workouts sync as per workout.
