My bike is in the shop. New brake fluid and hose. But the sun was out and so was I.

It rained here... but it didn't stop me..... Is your bike rim brake or disk brake?1

Disc. I lost all the modulation in the rear brake after a long descent on a dirt road. Downside of hydraulic brakes. So they're bleeding them and replacing the fluid, and while they're at it I'm replacing the hoses with red ones.0

Can I hijack the thread to ask what's the best kind of all around bike to get for mostly residential riding? Are there downsides to mountain bikes?0

Nice job! I went for a run in the morning yesterday-I love seeing the sun as it's rising1

I know Shimano, SRAM, and FSA all have Hyd rim breaks but have yet to talk to anyone who has them.... I'm piece by piece upgrading my Road bike and trying to think if i want to go Hyd rim or mech rim ....1

Are you going to mostly be on pavement?
Road bikes are faster than mountain bikes, and the handlebars have more positions which means you can move your arms and back a little bit more while you ride. That's more comfortable if you're going to be on the bike a few hours. And a faster bike is better even if you don't go fast, because it takes less energy at any speed. The trade-off for all of this is it's less versatile, you can't take it as many places.0 -

If I can add my two cents There are companies like Jamis and Surly that make "Urban Road Bikes". They have the drop bars like a road bike, but they have slightly wider tires, like mountain bikes so you can get the best of both worlds. You get the positions of a road bike, with the softer ride of a mountain bike. And they're going to require less effort than an all out mountain bike to move around town.0
