I've been gaining muscle the whole time while maintaining 1000 to 1400 calorie diet. I went from curling 5 pound weight to curling 15 pound weights in just over a month.0

Aside from its metabolic benefits (i.e., speeding up fat loss), resistance training helps spare lean body mass for trained individuals and helps CREATE lean body mass for folks just starting out.0 -
You will be able to build some muscle, especially if you're just starting. But, with a caloric deficit, or even maintenance level, you will hit a plateau on how much weight you can lift. Additionally, any gains you do make will be at a slower pace than if you had a caloric surplus.0
