Which anti-psychotic? The only one that could potentially cause metabolic syndrome is seroquel and you'd just need a macro adjustment. You can lose weight the same way as everyone else otherwise. I lost weight whilst taking seroquel.

Counting calories and choosing foods that provide satiety. Eat less. Protein is important. Spread out calories through day or however it helps you to stay on point.

Ask you doctor for recommendations regarding your diet and exercise for your particular mediation. Some may be better when taken with food, etc.

My brother takes mood stabilizers and anti psychotics known to cause an increase in appetite. When he was in a hospital setting, he gained weight while eating hospital food and not getting much exercise. Now that he is home, eating Mom's cooking, helping her with extensive yard work, and walking several miles per day, he lost all the weight he gained and has maintained a healthy weight for over two years.

He doesn't count calories. He does eat lots of whole foods - fruits, veggies, legumes, whole grains, etc. There's very little, if any, junk food in the house.

Eat at a calorie deficit. Nothing to it. :)

I only have experience with seroquel, but what is working for me is low carb moderate protein moderate fat. I lose slowly, but I lose. I also exercise a lot, usually 5-6 days per week. This diet advice was given to me by a doctor who specializes in metabolic medicine and a registered dietitian. >50 carbs per day and whatever calories you need to lose weight depending on height/weight etc.
    hope that helps.

I think you need to explain to your doctor in detail the side effects of your medication and how it affects your mental and/or physical health.
He might give you better advice.
I used to take antipsychotics myself and my brain was telling me to eat more even when my stomach was full.
I put on weight. I was worried about it but somehow the medication was telling me not to worry.
It also made me very lazy and I had memory losses.
I take another medication for my mental condition with no side effects.
I lost weight because I can control my brain now.
Different medications react differently on different people.
As I said the only person that can really help you is your doctor.
I hope you can manage your condition and lose weight at the same time.
    I wish you the best.

All these people saying its simple and nothing to it-idk.

I take seroquel and lithium and have gained 80 lbs. Its not so simple to "eat less" when you just ate a huge meal and ten minutes later your stomach is audibly growling.

I am going to give myself 6 months of dieting and exercise and see if I can lose some weight. Otherwise I am going to reevaluate my med routine.
