I've done P90X for 6 weeks at which point I injured myself during the program. If you are out of shape, it might be too intense to get through it as it really IS very demanding on your body. What really works is that the DVDs offer a variety of exercises you might otherwise not do, and that you can do them in your own privacy, etc. The whole point is that your body will always be challenged, so it can't get used to the same routine.
You'll definitely need a chin up bar and some weights. Also, to finish some of the exercises you'll need an hour and a half, so make sure you have enough time... If you want to get an idea of the type of exercises you'll need to do, check out their web site: http://www.beachbody.com/text/products/programs/p90x/P90XWorkSheet_090110.pdf.
They also give you advice on eating right, etc. This can be a bit overwhelming too if you are not used to track calories, nutrition, etc.0
