    What food can't go bad?
Well I guess some grains when dried, and spaghetti when dried.

I heard doritos can't fully "go bad"
  • I like that !! I also heard somewhere to be aware of "beige and white foods" usually they are high in fats, sugars, carbohydrates -white sugar, flour, breads, chips, icecream etc.... And to eat foods with bright colours like fruits and vege's. It's not true of everything but it does make some sense.

I had a similar thought this morning.. I had to take out the kitchen trash and I though "Wow, this is stinky."
But then, I realized it was stinky because it was filled with trimmed bits of meat, veggies that were no longer good, cheeses, and other food products than can go bad, rather than pastas and cookies and cake. I guess having a stinky kitchen trash after 3 days is a GOOD sign.

Highly processed foods generally take a long time to go bad. I used to buy a white potato bread that could stay on the counter for weeks without a sign of mold. Waay too many preservatives!

Lol we have a muffin in a cellophane wrapper in our office. It's got to be close to a year that its been there and it hasn't changes a bit! We keep it as our experiment...its still soft even...not dried out at all...no mold. Definitely not eating that brand anymore lol

Gross! I've definitely had muffins and bread last FOREVER in my fridge until the next time I clean it out. I also have a box of hot dogs I bought in bulk (before MFP) that will probably last us until the apocalypse.
  • My little grandson left some McDonald's french fries in the back seat of my car one time. It was almost a month before I discovered them while cleaning out my car... and I swear they didn't look any different.

That is so true! I need to remember that next time I'm feeling a craving come on!

I believe that! I had half a pizza in my car's trunk for quite a while and all it did was shrivel. No mold, nothing.
(Yes, that's incredibly gross. It was leftovers from my godson's baptism reception and I forgot about it.)

    Good rule!!

I had a roommate once who would only buy white, mass-produced breads, but would never throw them out past their expiry date. I found one loaf three months past it's date, and it looked exactly the same as a new one. It was completely identical in feeling and smell to the brand new loaves. Gross. How many preservatives do you think are in something like that? I mean, it's bread!!

On the other hand, lots of dried foods (split peas, beans, lentils, various grains) don't go bad for a very long time, and they're good for you, especially when fresh food isn't a viable option (such as backcountry camping trips).
