Breastfeeding.

I feel like I'm starving all the time. I'm gaining weight like crazy. I was eating 1400 calories, and trying to workout twice a week and I ate back my breastfeeding calories. I'm getting very discouraged. Any help from other mama's would be amazing! What helped you?

No advice, but empathy. I definitely gained weight while breastfeeding - in spite of the million articles that say you'll lose weight. I was just hungry constantly. Maybe take it easy and wait until you wean?0

I have also gained weight while breastfeeding so I decided to change my eating habits. Mfp gives me 1500 calories to eat and I add 300 to account for breastfeeding. My little one is 11 months so he doesn't nurse like he used too. I lost 11 pounds since August 17th.1

I didn't start working at this until my two were almost a year old. Before that, I was soo hungry I don't think I would have been able to stick with it at all!! I can definitely empathize! They are now over a year old and even though I still have some hunger, it is manageable. I eat a lot of protein and fat, mainly getting carbs from fruit, veggies, beans and it seems to help a little. If you can maintain until your little one is eating some solids I think it would be easier at that point to cut back. Try to always pair your carb intake with protein and /or fat to help with satiety. How is your sleep at this point? I found the sleep deprivation made me even more hungry!1

1400 is way too low to be eating if you're breastfeeding. You *should* be eating back all your breastfeeding calories. So, if you want to eat 1400 for you, you still need to eat 500 extra for baby - for a total of 1900. Which still sounds low to me unless you're very tiny. I'd recommend at least 2000 calories per day. Most women can lose weight just fine eating in the 2000-2500 calorie/day range while exclusively breastfeeding. Eating as low as you're trying to do will risk you losing some of your milk supply.0
