I bought some Ideal no calorie sweetener from the store and it boasts the fact that it includes xylitol. Is this really any better than the other artificial sweeteners?

The only sweetener I use anymore is Stevia. I know nothing about any of the others...but Stevia is all natural, and the reason it's zero calorie is simply because your body can't break it down. All the sweetness (more actually), none of the calories =D.0

The only sweetener I use is Truvia, it is also natural.0

Stevia - if you can get actual stevia from your healthfood stores, not the truvia / purevia marketed by coke/pepsi that have bulking agents in them. Go for stevia... you can grow it in your garden0

Xylitol, if all natural is a great choice.
I think it's derives from birchwood. It does have a few calories, but very few.0 -
Sugar is a wonderful sweetner thats given a bad rap not because its unhealthy which its one of the most healthy sweetners there is. it only has 15 calories per tablespoon. Do you really want to consume chemical experiments vs what nature makes. Stevia is ok as it comes from a plant, Splenda is a chemical as far as i'm concerned no better than Aspartame (Nutrisweet).
I don't eat pastries, cakes , pies , candy or drink soda pop so all my sugar or most of it is from fruits and real foods. As you start micromanaging calories you look at alot of things. I love coffee and i also love the taste of Coffeemate Hazelnut creamer at around 6-8 tablespoons a cup (guestimate as i pour to color lol) thats between 210-280 calories per cup of coffee and i generally drink 2-3 cups a day. I can achieve the same amount of sweetness and acceptable taste with 1/4 cup of 2% milk and 1 TBSP of table sugar for around 50 calories per cup and my coffee is very strong.
If you figure 2 cups of coffee a day at 100 calories a day with the natural stuff it comes out to 700 calories a week from milk and sugar compared to 2940-3920 week using product like Coffeemate. Figure it out at a month or even a year and thats an incredible amount of calorie differential. So i guess it really depends on how much sugar you consume daily by other then natural sources. My choice is either sugar or a product like stevia, agave or honey. Nature made sweetners.0 -
