Calories Intake and Working Out

Hi All,

For the last two weeks I've been working four times a week, cardio (30-40 minutes) with weight training.

I'm averaging 1925 calories a day; but I'm wondering, is this too high to promote weight loss? Should I cut down to 1700?

My net is usually 1500-1700.

I'm 27, 5'5" and roughly 156 lbs.

Cheers!

    Are you losing weight?

I second the question of are you losing weight? If you are netting what you say you are, you are basically eating 1700 calories.

    I am - I think. I've lost a pound.

If you are, then I would suggest continuing with what you are doing. My philosophy of fat loss is eat as much as you can while still losing weight at a reasonable pace.

I love when people post about eating more than 1500 calories especially while active and are able to lose. I have never been able to eat 1200 a day consistently even while super lean and losing weight in prior years. I have a hard time not overeating on a daily basis/with each meal due to some bad habits and other issues but firmly believe if I can stick to a number smilier to yours, keep my activity the same I would lose. It may be slow but I think you feel less deprived and are developing better habits.

Chances are you're still at a deficit with your fitness activity. Yours may be a slower track but if you're comfortable there, that's a-ok. You could always try sticking with the 1900 another week and check in then... or make fitness a 5-6 day a week thing.

You still have a lot of options and room to maneuver. That's kind of the fun of it- getting to know what works for you and all that.

I've never understood how anyone could eat less than 1500 without losing their mind tbh

At 5'2" I get 1250 calories a day and sometimes it's hard for me to finish it all, I can't imagine trying to eat 1500 calories a day with healthier foods, that makes my tummy hurt just thinking about it. Everyone's different :)
