Alcohol and Intake??

Hey everyone. I'd love to get some ideas on how you can still have a couple alcoholic drinks but also account for the calorie intake without eating next to nothing.

I usually have around 3-5 vodka sodas with two limes, probably around 350 calories but for me because I am doing a deficit, this is extremely hard. Everyone knows drinking on an empty stomach is not smart so does anyone have any tips on how to deal with this?

Thank you!!

Maybe a bit less vodka (because that's a lot) or a lot more walking!

How many days/nights a week do you drink 3-5 vodkas? If its just the one night or only occasionally managing alcohol intake and calories is manageable. If its five nights a week not so manageable...

One or two nights a week? Just go to maintenance calories those two days.. If this is every night 5 -6 - 7 days a week, lets look at that.

1.5 ounces approx 96 cals. That times x 5 drinks is approx 480 calories. If you are doing 3 that is appox 288 calories.

How many calories are you consuming a day to lose weight (your deficit?)..

Now I am not one to preach, if you are trying to lose weight you need to figure in drinking into your diet the best you can, or perhaps cut back on the number of nights. Otherwise 288 - 480 calories can be worked into my calories. But only a night or two.

Exercise more so you can eat more as well.. Have a chicken sandwich or two before you drink! :)

You could also bank some calories during the week to save up for your alcohol consumption. I usually plan a snack as well because I know that I will eat something after the drinking.

It's all about balance for me! If I know I am going to be drinking thay night, I try to work out the day of and the day after (actually helps with a hangover too haha)

I won't lie - if a reasonable deficit brings you to about 1200 calories a day, that amount of alcohol cuts into the daily allotment quite significantly, and if you are rigorous about not exceeding that #, you will not be getting proper nutritional support on days you drink.

The day that I drink I try to stick to low carb, high protein, low fat foods and ensure I have enough calories left for what I will drink.

For me I work out on days I know I'm going to have a beer to cancel it out. Generally try and eat something like fish or humous & pita before having a drink. It is a tricky game so I tend to have a few solid good days before allowing myself a few beers ;) - Good luck mate

From what I've read online, consuming fats with alcohol is by far the worst way to approach this.

That's a lot per day. If its one or two days a week, just adjust your overall deficit on other days to account for it.

If its every day, you're going to need to cut back. Try cutting to two, and then to one.

You'll have to exercise and try and burn at least 500 - 1000 calories via exercise on any day you drink 5 drinks if you want to eat. Preferably do the exercise earlier in the day before you start with the vodka. I use cardio to accomplish this (bicycling) and build in a ride anywhere from 60 - 90 minutes to over two hours on weekends.

Just be honest about counting your calories consumed, and what you burn per day to get the CICO equation correct to meet your goals (be that a deficit, maintenance, or a surplus to gain)...

You keep reading the science mate..Im talking from experience. Fish has very little fat. The idea is the pita and humous is filling enough to soak up the booze so you dont get hungry after drinking and order some giant pizza. Of course grilled meats work too..certainly in grease they have grilled lamb or pork before they drink

Science or one persons anecdotes? What you're actually saying is that it comes down to self control after consuming alcohol.

What do you have your diary set to for weight loss? If it's 2 pounds a week, raise it to .5 pounds a week. That way you can continue your drinking habit, and lose weight.

Thank you all for your input! This is something I do once a week sometimes twice a week MAX.

My goal is to yes, lose weigh but I'm looking to lose 5 lbs in about 1-2months, small progression.

I appreciate all your input and sorry for not specifying certain things!

You'll be fine. Just counterbalance it on those one or two days per week with enough exercise so you can eat, drink, and be merry. B)

You say "everyone knows" that drinking on an empty stomach is bad, but... what do you mean by "bad"? It's the same alcohol either way. ^.^

idk... maybe I'm "bad" but I like drinking on an empty stomach because it hits faster, so I'm less tempted to continue drinking (unless it begins fading and I want to stay buzzed).

I don't drink much anymore but, if I do, I make myself pay for each drink w/exercise.

One 12 oz can of beer, one 5-6 oz glass of wine and 2 oz of hard liquor is about 110-120 cals and I can burn off about 110 cals in 10 mins of rowing or 15 mins of spin biking.

So, I just bike and/or row as much as necessary to offset the cals consumed drinking.

An 'anecdote' is an amusing story? Just giving advice, not sure why you need to pipe up on my comments. Short of the OP cutting down her drinking, getting some meat or bread in first is helpful or making sure you have a low calorie filling meal after you have had a drink.

    1) Anecdote: An account regarded as unreliable or hearsay.
    2) You advised that she had fish, pita and hummus which is not low calorie or low fat.

    1.5 oz vodka = ~100 cals. So.. 3-5 drinks = 300-500 calories.

I generally try to eat a little less the days plural before a big drinking night. I also try to exercise more the day after.

I have a 4z vodka & club soda EVERY night, and have lost 40lbs since January. It's pretty easy to fit into your daily calorie intake :)

I drink 3 to 4 Tall Ones a night and maintain, as long as I stay within my food budget

Are you mixing with diet soda or club soda? If not, try that with a twist. Plan your meals carefully that day and the next. Eat filling foods with lots of fruits and veggies all day. Chicken or fish is a good choice for dinner, once again with veggies.

This evening's drink is chammomile-cinnamon tea, birthday cake vodka, and two tablespoons of vanilla protein shake for creamer. Sweet and soft and delish.
