You're eating too little. I went over your diary, most non exercise days you average 1100-1200 calories and you want to lose 50 lbs...that calorie level is too little for you. Change your goal to 1 lb per week

To answer that, we need to know a lot more than just what you eat. Do you workout, are you on any weird drugs, are you preggers, do you have diabetes or thyroid problems, are you actually weighing your food, ect.

Assuming you are a totally normal person with no issues, best guess would be that you aren't actually weighing your food and are eating more than you suspect, or are forgetting to log things. Just off the top of my head. Thats the most common mistake on here, IMO.

With only 50 lbs to lose you may not lose 2lbs a week. Starving your car for gasoline won't make the engine fire. You need food to keep your metabolism going. If you have been at this for awhile, you're going to have to add to see a loss. I just had a 6 month plateau- I know it's frustrating. But you have to trust the method. And when you ask what's wrong- and we help you, it helps to listen

    I will tell you a secret- I ate 1200-1300 calories a day for 2 years. I lost 40 lbs. I stalllllllllllllled. I now eat 1600-1800 a day and lose almost 2lbs a week.
  • Sweebum is right. You need to be aware of your Resting Metabolic Rate and eat just under that. Make sure you are burning more than you are eating. You seriously need to increase your water intake. Food has water in it. So when your body is dehydrated, it stops releasing anything. Fluid and fat. Your body starts to retain fluid which you will see on the scale. Divide your weight in half and that number is how many ounces of water you need for your body to allow weight loss. You should drink a minimum of 8-10 8oz cups per day in general. So if you were 200lbs, 1/2 of that is 100. So 100 oz of water is about 6 16 oz bottles of water per day. You can drink the flavored once that have no calories. You can have crystal light. You cannot have soda (even diet). Avoid carbonation, avoid all sugar drinks, avoid caffeine. Many people hit caffeine thining its a diaretic. However, it causes your body to crash which may impede your exercise motivation. Make sure you are getting enough protein. Protein is muscle nourishment. Protein takes longer to digest so you won't be as likely to binge or have bad cravings. When you have dinner, eat your protein first. If you are still hungry eat your veggies next. Only after eating all your veggies, if your still hungry move on to your starch or side dish. If you are full...stop. I always take a double helping of veggies and finish it before moving on. Just remember the minimum water you need to drink to prevent dehydration is 8 glasses (4 bottles of water). You will never feel thirsty unless you are dehydrated. So if you get thirsty during the day you are not drinking enough. If you are having sugar drinks, they do not count, you still need that water in addition to it.

I agree that with that much weight to lose, you may not be eating enough. However, in looking through your food diary, the quality of your food, in my opinion, is not very good at all. I see a lot of fast food, chips, fried potatoes, pre-packaged foods, etc. While there are days when we all splurge on some of these foods once in a while, you probably shouldn't be eating these things every day. These foods are also loaded with salt, which is not good for you.

Do you have a heart rate monitor to track the calories your burn when you exercise? Also, how often are you exercising and what type of exercise do you do?

The only other suggestion other than all the others that everyone else is already saying is maybe you want to track your sodium and sugar intake. From a brief glance over your diary, your sodium levels seem like they would be really high. My suggestion would be to turn on tracking for sodium and sugar, at least for a little while, to make sure everything is under control there. Salt increases bloating, and too much is really not good for you.

I am sorry to jump in but I am actually very confused by the whole net calorie thing. Positivegoals you are saying that we need to burn more than we eat so If I eat 1200 calories a day I should burn 1200+ a day?

I also think that everyone's body is different, so I can't tell you exactly why you're not losing 2 lbs a week. I have been losing about 2-2.5 lbs a week with my net calories at 1200. I work out 6 days a week and eat most of my exercise calories. But, I eat much differently than it seems you do on most days. I really think changing what foods you are actually eating will help a ton. More fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and less processed and fast foods could go a long way.

    No, no, resoundingly no!
Your body NEEDS a certain amount of fuel (BMR) just to lie in bed and do your living processes of breathing, heart beating etc. Laying in bed in a coma requires a certain amount of calories. Even rolling out of bed in the morning to use the facilities moves your caloric need to more than that number.

Burning more than you eat is wrong(for anyone, but especially for how MFP is set up. MFP gives you a caloric goal based on your weight loss goal (OP's 2 lbs per week) the caloric goal given will allow that loss without lifting a finger in exercise. Once you exercise and burn extra calories the way MFP is set up you're meant to eat back exercise calories (so your net number is what your goal number was before adding exercise)

Try to pre plan your week and grocery list. Opt for lots of veggies, non processed meats. Cook at home whenever possible, and even pre pack your lunch the night before.

Please don't "not eat", as that is VERY unhealthy (anorexia). For a helpful hint, I've found that my path in the grocery store is simply all the way around the outside, i.e. through the produce, raw meat section, milk, and (only sometimes) bread. I don't even go down most of the aisles (with the exception of the cereal aisle, as I love shredded wheat!).

Take a deep breath. It's new, it's different, and it may be difficult to start off. However, you CAN do it IF you WANT it enough.
