I get much more creeped out by books than movies. Currently reading It and it's probably the scariest book I've read. House of Leaves, Bird Box, The Amityville Horror, and Something Wicked This Way Comes are some of my favs. Then there are other kinds of scary like The Handmaid's Tale, and 1984. What's your favorite?

Naomi's Room by Jonathan Aycliffe is a nasty piece of work. Still can't decide if I mean that in a good way or a bad way. All of Adam neville's books are immensely enjoyable.
I'm reading Songs of a dead dreamer by Thomas Ligotti if we're including short stories.0 -

Ooooh, Shirley Jackson. "The Lottery" freaked me out in ninth grade because, up until that point, the lottery for me was how people became millionaires rather than the more generic definition of picking one lot out a bunch for whatever purpose. Winning the lottery meant you were lucky and was a good thing not a creepy thing where you're deciding who to sacrifice to better the community.
I kept waiting for the happy to occur which, of course, it never does. I felt kind of ripped off but it was a good lesson on the vagaries of the English language for me. I'm pretty sure that's why they teach that short story lol.2 -
The Other by Thomas Tryon1

I Am Legend is far better than the movie would lead you to believe. Kinda cool how it turns out that he's the monster for the monsters...

"The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. That book will scare the *kitten* out of you, not because it is scary but because it is absolutely plausible. The breakdown of society after an apocalypse, and what people will do to survive. Very scary to think about and it will depress you for weeks. I highly recommend it.3
