Carbs e.g potatoes/rice before or after workout

Hello Everyone,

I have various people telling me different things to this question. I usually eat about 3pm and after workout is between 7-8pm.

An hour before I go to the gym to do weights/ cardio and ab workout do I eat carbs like potatoes ( variety of cooking methods dry roasted etc) or rice.

Some say yes because it will work off the carbs, others say no be too full and your body needs carbs after.

Help
Thanks
Wendy

For weight loss (or gain for that matter) the timing of food makes so little difference that it is practically irrelevant.

Some people like a load of carbs before a gym session because they feel it helps them get the most from that session, others claim the opposite. My interpretation is that the effects are mainly psychological and therefore it's best to do what feels good to you. But, I would point out that carbs 4-5 hours before a gym session is probably not what most people are thinking when they talk of pre-work out fuel. Of the people who tend to adopt a "carbs-before-a-work-out" regime, they tend to be eating 1 hour - 45mins before that work out.

Yes, but it's a zero sum game: Same carbs taken after the work out will yield the same body weight/composition results.
others say no be too full and your body needs carbs after.

fullness... maybe, some people (myself included) struggle working out with a belly full of food.

I do them 30min before working out, post-workout it's protein.

But then - my carbs come from glucose powder (or a sports drink or other fast absorbing carb), so it doesn't fill be up.
