Going to the gym vs. Working out at home...

I just follow how I feel and do whichever one--as long as I do something!! I usually get a better workout in the gym just because of the contagious environment, but if I can tell I am just NOT in the mood to go, I make sure I immediately do some kind of workout at home when I get there. I think the best option is whichever place you feel you'd do your best at the time!1

HOME! I absolutely LOVE working out at home. But.... this is only because I've been able to collect the equipment I want and need for a small home gym. I had a gym membership for the last 4 years and a trainer for 1, and I still had issues walking into the weight room with confidence. Not to mention the travel and waiting. At home I really push myself and love working out. It can get expensive buying home gym equipment, most of mine is used. But it pays off in the long run. I don't miss the gym whatsoever!1

I hit the gym to lift...I enjoy it. My trainer is the owner and always there to give advice, etc. He's also a really good friend, so it's nice to get in there and say hi...we usually chill and chat for 10-15 minutes when I'm done. With a home gym, I wouldn't be able to have nearly the equipment available to me...or the space to put it.
Other than that, I cycle so I'm out on the road...save for I am buying an indoor trainer for this winter1 -
The outdoors. Lakes for swimming, mountains for climbing, trails for running, and roads for cycling. Better views, no membership fees, and the air smells good.2

At home. I have a power rack in the basement. I can do my 5x5 workout by myself, with my own music, on my own time. I may join a gym later, when I shift to cut cycle.1

I get up and go run. I like to go at 4:30 AM so even if I run to the gym (yes I run there too) crowds are never a problem at that hour.1
-
I love my home gym; never have to wait for the machines, no one chatting my ear off while I grunt and sweat.2

I'm the end, it doesn't really matter where you workout, as long as you get a workout in! I'm not part of a gym yet, so I do all my workouts at home. I probably will sign up for a gym soon though. Just so I have the option. I also like the classes that most gyms offer.0

I'm all about working out from home. With two children under 5, going to the gym is just not realistic - there are too many reasons to skip it and I end up being inconsistent. I'm working out at 5:30 am before everyone gets up.
I like that no one sees me, I push myself much harder that way.1 -
i go to rec centres and also pay for a weekly 'club' session at my trainer's space, with maximum three other people. the club rocks. it's a formal workout, but also part of my social life now.
i don't talk or hang out and rarely even interact with people in the public space, but still think i like it better than i would at home. except from january through until oh, about april each year. that's when i start changing my mind.1 -
The gym, hands down. I find it keeps me motivated.1

Think this is the 3rd gym vs home thread that I've seen recently.
I answered the others more seriously. In this case, the answer is the same - - at home - - but the reason is different.
I prefer working out at home because I can do so naked, just like I'm doing now. No other place I can do that at, except a clothing optional resort that I don't visit as often as I use to.
LOL!1 -
At first I loved to work out at home but then I found a class I loved at the gym.... spinning. I met people and established comfort and people I could go to for advice while working out. I still do some at home but love the gym.1

I'd say wherever you can be Consistent!
I started off with a lil bench and some weights in the home office.
A gym opened up 1.5 miles away and sure enough i joined thinking Wow! It's so close!
But with 2 toddlers and a 12-hr shift at work, guess what?!? I still found myself working out in the home gym.. 11pm or 12am when all chores are done.
Needless to say, i invested in a power cage and a few more bars & weights and brought the home gym down from the upstairs office to the Garage and never looked back!1 -

LOL!
Be careful with your "equipment."

The "equipment" is of normal size. So, it doesn't get in the way and isn't likely to get "caught" in anything. I do, however, wear shoes.0 -
I love both, some days I just don't have time to hit the gym so I do my quick Iso-Bow Isometrics workout at home which only takes a few minutes a day, build strength and muscles quickly!1

I have spent two years and small fortune on equipment for home.. where I live the nearest gym is 45 minutes away across a toll bridge in another city. I sort of live out in the country.

I love not going to the gym . It used to be motivating but then I started getting easily stressed and anxious whike there so I stopped going. I now go to a park and power walk for an hour.1

Both
We have a treadmill, some dumbells, and a kettlebell at home. But I like to get to the gym to use other equipment & work out with my trainer once a week.1
