Detoxing/Cleansing - how do you survive?

I have tried and tried before but just could not survive on raw fruits and veggies only all day. For those of you who have detoxed/cleansed, how do you manage to get through the entire day, especially with the headaches?

Can you share what your meals were and the kind of tea? Looking for anything that might help me get through today. I made a fruit smoothie for breakfast and already feeling a little hungry. I was planning on just steaming some vegetables for lunch and snacking on carrots in between. I tried this before but I get so lightheaded and then the headaches and I cave in and just eat actual food. I may have some almonds too to help with the hunger feeling.

Yea my bootcamp trainer recommends I do it two or three times a week but it just seems crazy to me. I want to start out by trying it at least once a week. I've been going to this bootcamp now a month and I have yet to get through a full day of raw fruits and veggies alone. Wondering if anyone has any tips.

I've tried detoxing with fruits/veggies before and actually completed it for two weeks. I would eat more veggies than fruit in my opinion they kept me full longer. Make sure you have a variety of vegetables including a lot of green veggies! I also drank plenty of water! Good luck!

I'm looking to start a 10 day juice cleanse soon, and have done a ton of research preparing. First off, the first day or two you are going to get headaches, and feel really lousy, but as you continue it will go away. Second, the sugar in fruits will make you hungry. So they suggest to have fruit juices in the morning, and then more vegetables than fruits the rest of the day.

I saw a documentary "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead" recently that was really inspiring. I recommend it!

I did a Shakeology cleanse. Shakeology is a meal replacement shake.

for breakfast I had Shakeology with fruit, water/ice
Snack i had a piece of fruit
Lunch i had shakeology with water/ice
Snack I hada piece of fruit with a little granola on top (not supposed to but i needed the carbs)
Dinner was a big salad with lots of veggies and 4 oz chicken

between each meal I would drink lots of tea - green tea, passion, lemon, white, etc. if you are getting headaches you are not drinking enough water.

the first thing is mental preparation. many times the headaches and hunger are your body's way of trying to get you to eat the unhealthy, preservative full foods you were eating before. Think about it this way, back in the Bible days people survived, and thrived, without all the processed junk we consume today. Is your thinking about detoxing deprivation based or benefit based? If you look at it as "gee, this is horrible i'm so deprived" it'll be much harder. Instead think of detoxing as a way to set your body up for success by essentially hitting the reset button :-)

i agree with the previous poster, that you MUST drink water. and not just 8 glasses, you'll need more than that to help you through the cravings and hunger. i've found that with proper hydration my hunger is considerably less. also, more veggies will def help you more than fruit. fruit is nature's candy, but veggies are what help fuel the fire for the long haul. finally have you experimented with different herbs/spices? sometimes detoxing can be difficult because we force ourselves to eat bland foods. check out sites like www.allrecipes.com and some other vegetarian/vegan sites for creative ways to make your food more interesting. oh, and there's a website of a fellow mfp member where she's cataloged all kinds of clean eating recipes...worth a look for future reference www.thegraciouspantry.com

    hope this helps :-D

I saw that movie too! I have to say, I was inspired to dust off my old juicer and get to juicing! Mentally prepping for the upcoming cleanse. I plan on doing the 10 day reset. I'm a little scared to give up coffee and my other stimulants... but it's time to break through this plateau and clean out some of the bad things I've been putting in my body recently!
  • I'm a vegetarian and as long as you eat a variety and drink lots of water the headaches and such shouldn't last more then a day. Be careful exercising at first though, you may get lightheaded.
