Running gear? water bottles?

I have been running for a few months now and am going for longer distances-slowly, but it's happening;). After getting sick after running one hot evening, I figured that I was dehydrated and should really be carrying water with me. How do you carry your water on a run? Has anyone tried one of the little water bottles that strap onto your palm? What is the most comfortable way to carry water when I run?

I haven't tried them but you can get a belt pack that attaches 2-4 small water bottles. The company Nathan makes some. I use one of their belt packs without water bottles and find it quite comfortable.

I've trained for 2 marathons with a Nathan Fuelbelt. It's great. I have the speed pack or something like that. It hold 2 bottles and has a velcro pocket for keys and stuff. It doesn't bounce at all. I got it on amazon and love it! I wear it when I bike too. :) Here's the one I have but they have several different ones.

I have one of these... It works really well. You can find them at any sports store or running store.

I used to have the actual fuel belt that went around my waist... I see people running with them all the time. It was extremely hot and would move around. That was just me.

I use the one that straps onto your hand (got the one at ****s) - it is very convenient and easy to take a sip or 2 in stride. What is nice is they have a little pouch on them as well so I can put some energy gels in there. Friends of mine use the belt, that was always uncomfortable to me and I have seen them struggle to get the bottle back in after 12-15 miles LOL. You definately need to take some fluid with you though, it is a little awkward at first with the water bottle in your hand but after a few miles you get used to it.

    Good luck :)

This is kinda silly but try to find one that has a rubbery mouthpiece on the waterbottle....I used to have one that was hard plastic and they feel awful if you drink in stride and hit your teeth. Maybe that's because I'm a metal mouth right now but just something to be aware of if you're sensitive to that. ;)

Personally, I find the belt style water carriers to be awkward and odd. I much prefer using a Camelbak!

Thanks for all of the tips. I have looked at the belts but they just seem awkward to me...maybe I'm wrong.

I have an Amphipod belt and find it very comfortable. No bounce at all when properly adjusted.

Although I am thinking about grabbing a hand held too for shorter runs in really hot temps. Sometimes on even a 5 miler I need some water because its 85-90 degrees.
