    Not even a tiny bit accurate. If you plan on eating back exercise calories, either only use the machine's calculated burn (like on treadmills), or buy an HRM

    Machines and MFP all give horrible calorie burn estimates - they are usually state way higher burns. A HRM is the best way to get more accurate results, but if you are using MFP or the machine, I'd half whatever they are telling you to be on the safe side and make sure you are not eating back too many calories

    HRM is not a good way to get accurate results for most types of exercise because HRM = heart rate monitor, not calorie monitor.

    A power meter is the best way to get accurate results outside a laboratory, but they're expensive and can only be used with some sports like cycling and rowing.

    I usually just eat back half of the "calculated" exercise calories just to be safe.
