Sleep & Exercise

Ok, so it is 1:29am my time and I find myself unable to go to sleep. After nearly an hour of tossing and turning (metaphorically speaking) I finally gave up. I switched up my exercise routine today, well yesterday now, and am wondering if this could be the cause as that's the only thing I changed. As I just recently came back to MFP I've been mostly walking the past few weeks. Today though I started strength training. Has anyone else had a similar problem? If so what kind of adjustments did you make?

Did you train at night time? Some people find it hard to switch off after a night time session but I am the complete opposite, my training tires me and I sleep like a baby! Before training I had severe insomnia. If it was only for today, give it more time before you can align it with the exercise. Also if you take any kind of pre workout make sure you do it before around 5pm. I myself don't have a problem sleeping if I take it at 7pm, but it could definitely affect you.
What time are you eating dinner? If you are eating late that could also affect your sleep. Have a look at a supplement called "shred time" or "the delta zone". both work wonders for me!0 -
@jolive7 thanks! I split it up, doing some in the morning and then some on my lunch break a little after noon. But we also did an evacuation drill at work around 4 and actually evacuated all of our residents (on a side note I counted that as part cardio and part strength1

Have you been taking any stimulants like caffeine?0

Sleep is hard. It's probably one of the most important things to healthy living. I find if I drink too much at night I wake up in the middle of the night and can't go back to sleep. I take an OTC sleep aid and that helps.

Maybe it was the evacuation drill?0

That high level of adrenaline from the evac could be the culprit. I have trouble sleeping if I have a really stressful day sometimes.0

Not sleeping is the worst. THE WORST. I wish I had good advice -- because I do feel your pain. Really TRY not to watch TV or fuss with your gadgets at least an hour before bedtime and don't pick them up when you can't sleep. I think you'll find over time that strength training will actually help make you more tired.0
