Five Week Slim Down Challenge

Hi all,

I've decided to set myself a five week challenge. My Fitness Pal tells us how much we could weigh in five weeks so thats my inspiration.

I need to post. To be accountable. I've already set reminders in my phone and hopefully this will help. I'd love it if anyone wants to join or even just if you read this, ask me about sticking to it. Hold me accountable

Now I'm off to bed. My new challenge starts in the morning with a weigh in.

I will do this.

Loz

Hey Loz! I'll join you. I need to stay on program as I've hit highest wt ever - 161.8. Only 5'4"

Working to avoid knee replacement surgery, so losing wt will help, but also can't go crazy with exercise.

Wt loss happens in the kitchen anyway, so off to a good start by packing a healthy breakfast & lunch

    Sounds great Joan and Forest.

And you are so right Joan... Weight loss does happen in the kitchen. The only time I lost weight aside from in the kitchen was after major surgery! I have put the weight on after a big injury and not being able to do anything so now I am just aiming as a first goal to get back to my normal and back into my normal clothes!

According to MFP last night, if I stick to my calorie goal and eat well I should be down to 78 in five weeks. That's only a few kilos above my normal. If I go well I could be back into my old clothing by the end of October. So happy. Now I am even more motivated to stick to it!

Just for you guys. My starting measurements are
    Height - 5'6"
    Weight - 187lb
    Goal for Challenge - 171lb

I have the height advantage over you guys, so hopefully that 16lb is achievable! I am only planning to weigh myself once a week. I find any more often and it's more discouraging than anything.

I'm going well today, Day 2. Had some cereal and fresh blueberries for breakfast and a really awesome wombok salad for lunch. I am a terrible cook but I even made the dressing and it is so yum. Now I'm off to do my physical therapy so getting my exercise in

I'd love to join this!! I am currently 5'1 and 154 lbs, and MFP says I should weigh 146 in 5 weeks if I keep eating like today. I haven't lost a pound in years so I need the motivation to stick with this and be consistent!

Jadorade - my scale has consistently been going in the wrong direction lately and it is easy to lose confidence in one's ability to shed lbs. you are so right that consistency is key. I have been successful when this is #1 focus & I have been a big baby not wanting to do the work.

Loz - I am right there with you with injury. My ACL deficient knee flaired up 1 yr ago - a result in part of stepping up my strength training program - & I have spent the past year going to various MDs who recommend knee replacement. I finally found an enlightened PT ( my 4th) who has prescribed a routine that actually works. I hope to move forward slowly on a better foundation.

    Here's to a great day!

How is everyone going? Good news??

I have had a bad day yesterday because of catchups with old friends but I am back on track today and feeling good. I went for a big hike two days ago and got chased through the rainforest by a cassowary for my troubles! They are particularly cranky creatures.

    On tomorrow's diet is pineapple

    So far so good!
3 good days food-wise & Scale is moving!
Saw a PT who identified probs in my hip & ankle both affecting my knee & both I can address w exercise & foam rolling
Packed food for breakfast & lunch - kept it light in prep for a food tasting event tonight!

One more day before weigh in day. I have been hiking again and made myself a big jug of iced tea that I have in the fridge for when I want something sweet. It's actually just herbal and fruit tea, no added sugar or anything. One more day and we have conquered week 1!

    WEIGH IN DAY!

I have not lost much this week. But still something.

Weight this morning 84.2kg so 185lb. I should start weighing myself in pounds, it feels like I am making more headway! Just under a kilo which is not to bad I guess. I am going to have to lose it faster to make my goal though.

Honestly, I really think I should be eating more food. I am terrible for only having one or maybe two meals a day, I have no consistency. Oh well. One step at a time, off for another hike now.

    How is everyone else?

    Anyone still with me?

I've only done two bushwalks this week but I'm going for a big hike tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it.

So I've been cooking a lot at home (well attempting to) and I've actually been learning a lot while doing it. I'm starting to instinctively recognise the right portion sizes and smart ways of cooking to make meals healthier. I've never been a good cook so that's a big thing for me. I also find that I eat earlier naturally. My parents have always eaten late and I did the same before I was single but now I'm hungry at 530pm and when I eat dinner then I'm good for the night. I am happy eating smaller portions now too. A milkshake or a smoothie fills me up completely!

All in all week two is going well. Hope I'm not alone but I'm going to keep posting anyway to keep myself accountable.

Well. It's week three and I am disappointed to report I didn't loose any weight last week.

I have been doing a lot of hiking and other exercise. I know I have been gaining muscle and I am still feeling good so hopefully that's what is going on.

I'm doing some different exercise this week. Stand up paddle boarding. That's fun.

Sorry for the radio silence here - I did great the first week, backslid over the weekend & have been avoiding the scale ever since. LOL. Back on track this week so had the courage to weigh in
    9/19 161.8
    10/5 159.0

The key for me is packing a breakfast & lunch that I know will control hunger. Greek yogurt & strawberries or 2 eggs for breakfast & turkey, avocado, hummus & a small pita for lunch seem to do the trick.

I am working on a new approach for my knee- it involves unwinding tissue fixations in my quad. PT said give it 4-6 weeks, so we'll see
