Anyone do desk/call center work?

Isn't it frustrating? Sitting here, when you could be walking around or excersizing? It's honestly the biggest reason I got this heavy in the first place.

Do you work 24/7? Don't let your job get you down, make it a goal to get active outside of work! I've worked in call centers for 11 years.0

I was 120 when started here. Now 13 years later I am 80+ lbs heaver...
10+ hrs a day sitting now compared to my previous job where I was walking constantly.0 -
I'm the same way. I work at a call center and I'm at my desk most of the day. Thankfully, I do have opportunity to walk around a bit, and I take advantage of walking on my breaks/lunch. It's funny, I snack less when I'm at work than I do when I'm at home, on days like today, where it hurts to move, I'm glad I get to sit a lot. I like that by the time I leave here I'm itching for a workout!0

Right now, I'm a student so I work part time at a daycare, but I like it because I can stand and walk around a lot. However, I used to work at a vet clinic as a tech in high school and I liked being able to lift animals, bathe them, and walk them around, even mopping! But I hated days where I would have to fill in at the front desk and just sit there! I was the exact same, all I wanted to do was get up and walk around.
If you have to sit down for the sake of people being around, there's not much you can do. But if you're closed off or no one is there, you could do calf raises, pretend to jump rope, and stuff like that.0 -
No I don't obviously. Maybe it's how much I hate this job and how much it DOES get me down. I've been down the road of "it's what you make of it" and positive thinking. I am very good at those things. I guess I'm just absolutely done with this place.0

I agree that it can be extremely frustrating. To make matters worse, I work out of my home so everything is within 10 steps of my computer. I try to throw in wall push-ups during visits to the restroom and take a walk at lunch. If I do go to the office, I park far away from the door. Just try to throw in activity throughout the day, like taking the steps instead of the elevator.0

Stand or do squats while on a call. I do programming and QA testing and have had my desk raised to allow me to stand and work comfortably. You my need a higher chair when sitting to work but there is lots of info proving standing while working consumes quite a lot of calories compared to sitting.0

While I HATE it, that I have to sit here as opposed to my first job of getting to walk for 8 hours, I must say that since I got my desk job I have been thinner than my walking job. I think the reason is that I realized that I would gain weight if I didn't incorporate some fitness in so I conciously decided to do soemthing about it, instead of like it was with my walking job, I ate what ever I wanted and I gained weight.0

Very interesting. So the situation forced you to change outside of work? Very cool actually.0

Not a big deal. I have a desk job so I work out at least once a day, sometimes 3 times a day. It's not like I would spend these 8 hours exercising if I didn't have to work...0

Iam in the same position... HATE my job, it makes me feel mean sometimes. lol I am about to the point of asking myself, "am I a better or worse person because of this job?" its leaning towards the worse... so I know I gotta make a change here soon. Unfortuantely sometimes circumstances plays a big roll.0 -
