Is it ok to take days off from your workout?

My husband is off Sunday and Monday so I try not to work out those days, we are usually busy and try to spend time together. Is it bad for you body to take a two day rest? Of course I try even harder to not go over my calorie allowance and try to remain active and not just sit around. I am just curious if anyone else does this? I have never been into fitness until after my child was born and I don't know a lot about working out and whats ok and whats not for the body.

Usually I do. I usually workout five days and take days off. My body needs the rest...

My personal trainer recommended that I don't go to the gym every day - a break gives your body a chance to repair itself after working out :) so just enjoy your time and don't worry!
  • you are supposed to take time off to let your body rest so as long as you are still watching what you what you eat you should be ok. if you see a problem then just get in a little brisk walk or something small! :flowerforyou:

from what i understand it is good to give your body a rest as long as you are still eating good it will be all good, you muscles will have time to heal and come tuesday your work out will feel that much better, i take at least one day a week off it makes me feel excited to get back to the work out too

Your body needs rest days! Your body needs rest to make it stronger. You will find that giving yourself a break will actually be beneficial in the long run.

Rest is just as important to your body as exercise. Generally at least 1 day of rest a week is recommended. If not complete rest, at least a less intense workout once a week. You can always try to wake up a little earlier though if you want to get some exercise in on those days.

It's all about making your life work for you.
I think spending time with your husband is a lovely priority to have.

If your not going to live a life you're happy with you'll never maintain.
I think as long as it all evens out over the course of a week or so you'll be fine.

Maybe you want to bank some of the calories. So that you don't feel so restricted with your diet on your non-exercise days.

Every once in a while I'll make a little 10-day total spread sheet to track my calorie unders and overs. This has helped me get a more realistic idea of where I stand and not beat myself up too much for a bad day or brag too much on a good day.

I don't always eat ALL of my exercise calories on the day that I exercise. Exercise seems to reduce my appetite that day, but I'm usually hungrier the next day. So I use them when I WANT them.

My target right now is 1410 calories. On days I work out I shoot to hit a minimum 1200 NET for the day, but I don't stress too much, as long as I'm netting between 8400-9870 for a 7-day or 12,000-14,100 for a 10-day window.
