Advice on Leaving MFP

My fitness pal has been a great resource in my health/weight loss journey- especially with keeping track of macros and nutrition. However, it's become a compulsion and while it is serving me well as far as nutrition goes, I do not believe that it is healthy for me to continue logging daily. It is causing my eating habits to become a bit of an obsession. I am looking to leave MFP while still continuing to live a healthy lifestyle. I am concerned about regressing back into bad habits and negating all of my progress. I was wondering if anyone has done this successfully/is in the process of doing this? How do you make sure that you're eating right without logging everything?

Pretty natural actually.
The whole point of the weight loss side of MFP is to teach proportions that work for that person.
Obsession with how many steps one takes in a day or OMG I just ate 100 calories over and my diet is ruined, or the thought one has to be a certain number on the scale to feel good is very common among the people who fairly new to MFP.
To answer the your last question, I usually can tell by how my clothes fit if they are too tight time to stop bulking and eating 6-8k a day. If they are too loose, time to stop start eating more for a while.
I'm not sure what your bad habits were that you mentioned but if you feel decently confident on moving on, I say good for you and good luck .5 -
You may want to check the Maintaining Weight section, as there are a couple of recent threads about no longer logging food. Here is one:

It may work for awhile but if you do go back to your old habits especially without an exercise plan the weight will come back on slowly if you aren't careful. However I'm sure there are people who lose weight w/o tracking every day.I don't happen to be one of the however.1

If my behaviour is becoming obsessive, I take an mfp break, and then come back to it. For example, if I won't eat something if I don't know the calories, that's a step towards trouble. Mfp is a tool and it's up to the user to keep its use positive.4

This! He's maintaining without. I'm maintaining without. If you have developed healthy habits, and understand portion sizes you don't need an app. Good luck!2 -
Honestly, I don't use the app now and I don't keep a log. I do keep track of my calories throughout the day. It isn't difficult. Also, while it is certainly effective, it isn't absolutely necessary to count calories if you make smart choices and follow healthy habits. Just watch for pitfalls and keep track of your weight. If it starts going back up, do you what you need to do.2

I've been maintaining without logging and did it for years before (gaining weight wasn't due to not logging, it was due to some other factors). I think it's important to eat in a mindful way and to find other ways to keep an eye on portions and make sure you aren't going overboard. For me what helps is eating according to habits -- mostly I have a sense of the kinds of meals I like to eat, don't normally eat between meals, and when I do (or have a special unusual day) I keep it as a rare thing, not something that creeps into most days.2

I like my mfp obsession. I have some great friends and without them, I'd probably lose focus.
You might try a week or so off and see how you're doing.
I use a DQS app by Matt Fitzgerald. I think it was 1$. No calories, just Quality Score. It's fairly easy to use.0 -
I would have left a long time ago if it weren't for my friends. If you have "turned the page" and know what to do, this isn't necessary for weight loss or fitness. I do find my friends inspiring, enjoy lurking in the forums so that's why I still hang on.2
