Is it just me or does everyone feel good after working out and sweating an incredible amount of sweat? The more sweat I have on my clothes when I'm done working out the better I feel about myself. I also believe it is very healthy to remove all the toxins from your body. Is it true when you sweat you are sweating away your fat?

  • well if you live in South Texas and walk down the driveway to the mailbox you come back in sweat. I would be really skinny if I just stayed outside?

I know you sweat a lot in the heat but what about when you are working out indoors with air conditioning?

I wear a sauna belt when I run and I'm not happy unless the sweat just gushes whn I finish and take it off. Gross, I know!

If I'm working hard (no matter where), I'm SWEATING. I've never been one of those dainty chicks who just "perspires." But I kinda like that. :} I'm with you -- the more drip, the BETTER.

Yes it is gross; however it makes you feel good about yourself! You know you worked hard too!

Haha, I sweat so much during my run today that for a minute I thought it was raining, then realized it was just the sweat flying out of my hair and off my clothes....

I've read that sweating is a good sign that your body knows what to do -- it's part of your body's reaction to maintain homeostasis and your internal temperature, and if you sweat a lot it's a good sign. I'm sticking with that theory because I sweat like a wildabeast.

No, you are sweating away water, sodium, potassium and some other stuff, but not fat.

As far as I can tell I am the only person at the gym who not only wides down the handles after working out on the elliptical but also the body of the machine under me because I have been dripping puddles of sweat.

    Gross? Definitely.
Would I want it to stop? No, I don't do stopping anymore.

I love to sweat... it was always so hard for me to break a sweat it took me a while to figure it out I thought I was killing myself at the gym but barely glistening. Then it happened I was on an elliptical ready to quit when I looked over and the man next to me was dripping wet and about 20 yrs. older then me and on it 30 mins more then me with it much higher in level, I upped my level and swore to myself I would match his time when I got off I was a puddle and had never felt better ,once my heart stopped slamming through my chest and my labored breathing stopped giving people concerned looks at me. Now I could never go back I have to sweat or I dont stop.

Whenever I see somebody working out a great sweat I want to tell them Great job! or WTG! you know all the comments we post to one another here.

That's so good that you work until you sweat now! I felt the same way. I just wasn't pushing myself hard enough and now I won't leave the gym until I am sweating a lot! I also use the elliptical trainer and love it!

I've also found that the more water I drink, the more I sweat. To me, it's gross. I'm a girl, not some big burly man.. There should not be this much sweat pouring out of me!

The only time it's satisfying is when I'm with my trainer and he gave me a really hard workout that day. If I'm dripping sweat and feel like I'm about to fall over, then I know that I gave it all I got and theres nothing more I could have done :)

There is no moral value to sweat. It doesn't mean you had a good workout, doesn't mean you had a bad one. Doesn't mean you are "burning fat" or "getting rid of 'toxins'" (one of the most annoying phrases of all time).

It's just a cooling mechanism. Some people naturally sweat more than others. Increasing the volume of sweat you produce is a normal training adaptation--contrary to what people might think, fit people tend to sweat more, not less.

As you sweat more, your sweat becomes more dilute, so someone who sweats a lot is not losing any more sodium--more fluid, yes, but not more sodium.

Perspiration is affected by temperature, but even more by humidity. Even in an air-conditioned indoor facility, you can usually tell when the air turns more humid.
