So, Montreal, in their infinite wisdom, has decided that all pitbull dogs must be banned, and that all pits in shelters must be immediately put down. What the hell is wrong with you people?

The OP called out Montreal specifically, so I don't think she was blaming all of Canada for this awful decision .Your sources op?
It's all over the news, here's one link to CBC News: Montreal

Stupid law.
So once all the pit bulls are gone, are they going to ban whatever dog finds itself on top of the most dangerous list? Ban the rotts, bulldogs, German shepherds and akitas. Then ban the great danes, boxers and mastiffs.

Yeah that's true! Sorry for being snarky OP:)
No worries!0 -
In America, insurance companies will not give you property insurance if you own one or more pit bulls, Dobermans, German Shepherds, or Rottweilers. And I am sure the list will expand.
In my younger days (when I was thinner and more agile!), I trained dogs professionally. One of the most vicious dogs I ever encountered was a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. My sister's family had a Labrador - Chow mix who had to be euthanized at age two because he bit children on five different occasions, including two of her daughters.
Dogs should not be banned by breed. They should be banned by behavior.
Maybe some people should be banned from owning dogs. I live in Missouri where most of the meth labs are. Around here, pit bulls are owned by druggies, and they train them to be vicious to protect their product.
As with much of society's problems today, it's the people. It's too bad the dogs have to suffer. Especially the good ones. Of any breed.7 -

Well at least you still have your guns1 -
I mean, I shouldn't discriminate but I think the culture they're is just so pretentious. I recently learned that they have the lowest rate of donors to charities across Canada. Which to me -as a broke university student that still donates to charities that mean something to me- that drives me crazy.0

@Villae81 don't get out much and has been grounded from TV.
On a serious note that is sad to condemn a breed of dog ...I also had not heard this news0 -
I'm going to ban Montreal from my travel destinations until they lift this ban. (I've never been, but now I won't go, and they won't get my tourist money)0

Maybe, maybe not, but they are doing a good job of defaulting all by themselves.0 -

Are guns legal there? I seriously don't know.
Wouldn't one need to defend oneself from the occasional Canadian elk, moose or beaver?

Rifles and shotguns aren't very different to attain in Canada vs the US. So the guns that would actually matter for hunting/protection from animals are easily available.0

Rifles and shotguns for protection from animals, great.
What about handguns for protection from monsters?
* disclaimer: I'm not a gun nut nor do I own any weapons; I'm just curious.1 -

I just saw an update saying that the ban has been suspended - at least for now.

I came across an article earliet stating that dna confirmed the dog involved in the attack that prompted this turned out to be a boxer, not a pit. Has anyone seen this? I'm not saying blame boxers either, just curious if that os true.
I honestly don't believe in bad dog breeds. Each dog is individual just like each person. We have one large pit and a medium sized hound/pit mix (my profile). I hate that some people cross the street when they see us walking. They are wonderful dogs.0 -
I agree. Dogs are wonderful. For some reason my younger daughter developed a fear of dogs when we were walking, and a very big dog licked her while she was in the stroller. It just scared her so much because the dog was so big. Sometimes she manages to get past it. And then it comes back. She's afraid the dogs will lick her. So, when walking we usually need to avoid dogs. Probably it will fade away when she is bigger. She's still very petite. My mother has a very big dog, and she was afraid, but now she isn't afraid of that dog. But, still afraid of dogs that are strangers to her.0
