I am so excited. My daughter got me a rice cooker for Christmas. My first thoughts were RICE :grumble:

But I has a steaming tray in it. So tonight I steamed some broccoli along with the families rice and It was great. It also has a setting to cook brown rice. So when I get to the point when I start adding rice I can cook Brown instead of white. I can steam all kinds of veggies.

Just thought that I would share.

Thanks PolarQueen I think I know what some of my tax refund is going to. I hate to boil them because then I 'd have to drink the water lol! and the microwave kills the vitamins in the veggies so steaming seems to be the best way! Thanks!:flowerforyou:

I have a rice cooker, and I have to say I'm not a huge rice fan, but I have been using it for quick meals. I also have a steam tray and I can do a whole meal, rice on the bottom and veggies and shrimp on top and I only dirtyed one pot. I love it.
  • Periphria - Thanks. That is another great idea. Shrimp MMMM. LOVE Shrimp.

I have a rice cooker too-it doesn't have a brown rice setting but I cook brown rice, pearl rice, and lentils in it very successfully. I didn't even know a rice cooker should have a brown rice setting  My question is, do your vegies get over-done? I haven't used my steaming tray because it seems like a long time for the vegies to steam, & I don't like mushy vegies. Thanks! :flowerforyou:
  • Astri- Actually the broccoli was very good. It wasn't even mooshi. Not like when you steam on the stove. The cooker came with a book and it was very simple.
Broccoli was only like 5 minutes.
Cauliflower, asparagus, and some others were 10 min.
Let me know and I can post it if you want.

Jmama- Nope not your mom. But am a mom. I would have be 6 when you were born.

Thanks I found my instruction booklet too. I didn't realize I had an "Aroma" ooohh. Anyway I think my big hangup is steaming vegies with rice--it never occurred to me to open the thing part way through to put the vegies in

I have a Zojirushi rice cooker, had it a few years now. We use it every single day. We have cooked everything from oatmeal, a sort of quiche, hard boiled (steamed) eggs, potatoes, obviously rice, to chicken curry in it. Well worth the money.
