Hi,
I have never had protein bars before but planning on starting to use them as I always have a hard time getting enough protein. Could you guys please recommend good and economical protein bars for vegetarians (NOT VEGAN)? Thanks in advance.

If you're fine with dairy (whey), then I think really most (if not all?) of them are vegetarian. Others, please correct me if I'm wrong.

People seem to like Quest and the Combat Crunch ones a lot.

I just looked at the label of my FitJoy bar and it has milk with possible exposure to eggs at the manufacturing plant. Not sure if either of those things is a turn off for you. I personally love FitJoy for the flavor, consistency, and low sugar/fat. High in total carbs, though. You also might want to look at protein shakes (not the store bought slim fast kind but the powders). I just get the generic gnc chocolate version and it tastes fine with some almond milk.

Very few protein bars contain meat. If you're looking for a protein bar suitable for lacto-ovo vegetarians, that would be just about any protein bar on the market (except for a handful of the newer bars, targeted for primal/Paleo eaters, that are jerky-based).

Whey is commonly made with rennet - stomach acid. Unless the bar says otherwise, there's no way to know if it's actually vegetarian.

My fav is a bar local to the Cleveland area called Good Greens. In a pinch I go with Clif Bars or Elevation Bars from Aldi's.

This may be just a cultural thing or the circles that I run in, but the majority of lacto-ovo vegetarians I know do not avoid rennet of unknown origin. This doesn't mean OP eats whey, of course.

D's Naturals No Cow bars are amazing. I keep them stashed EVERYWHERE.

I like the probar ones but they are vegan....do you have to have egg or dairy in it for some reason? I don't use them as a supplement but just if I caught without food or traveling (which did happen on my last trip). Quest used to be good but they changed the reciepe 100 times so I'm not sure if they are still good. Maybe?

Thank you all for the suggestions .... I don't mind milk or egg as long as it doesn't have any products derived from Pigs.

The one and only Quest bar I had tasted nasty to me. I assume it was the sucralose.
